Senior AWS Data Engineer — Remote

Location: Remote
Salary: $90,000 MXN gross per month
Experience: 10+ years of professional experience

We are looking for a Senior AWS Data Engineer with strong hands-on experience in Python, SQL, data pipelines, and AWS. This role requires active development, testing, troubleshooting, and deployment of production data solutions.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain reusable Python packages and automated ETL/ELT pipelines.
• Orchestrate sequential and parallel workflows, schedule jobs, and monitor pipeline execution.
• Diagnose pipeline failures, implement fixes, and reprocess failed records.
• Import and export CSV, JSON, and XML data using S3 or other cloud storage.
• Develop and optimize complex SQL queries for data warehouses, preferably Snowflake.
• Implement Python unit, integration, and system tests, along with dbt tests for data quality.
• Generate code from configurations using Python and Jinja templates.
• Build GitHub CI/CD processes from scratch and maintain technical documentation.
• Apply AWS security best practices across storage, access management, and deployment.

Required Qualifications

• 10+ years of professional experience with strong hands-on expertise in the required technologies.
• Advanced Python skills, including modules, packages, classes, inheritance, multithreading, and functional programming.
• Experience developing reusable Python packages for internal or public use.
• Experience automating ETL processes and scheduling workflows, such as Apache Airflow DAGs.
• Strong pipeline troubleshooting, monitoring, orchestration, and error recovery skills.
• Advanced SQL, including complex joins, CTEs, subqueries, and query performance optimization.
• Experience writing Python unit, integration, and system tests.
• Experience implementing dbt tests for data validation and quality checks.
• Experience with configuration-driven code generation using Python and Jinja.
• GitHub expertise, including implementing CI/CD processes from scratch.
• In-depth knowledge of AWS S3, ECS, and IAM.
• Knowledge of IAM roles, encryption, secure coding, and secure dbt profile/access configurations.
• Experience using AI-assisted IDE tools.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Snowflake.
• AWS Lambda for serverless data processing.
• Apache Airflow on AWS, including integrations with dbt, EMR, S3, Redshift, or Snowflake.
• API and data integrations with Salesforce, SFTP, SharePoint, OneDrive, or similar platforms.
• dbt Core or dbt Cloud experience, including incremental models, full refreshes, snapshots, documentation, and reusable macros.
• Experience developing custom dbt macros using Jinja and Python-based tooling.
• AWS CloudWatch or Datadog for pipeline monitoring, logging, and workflow failure alerts.
