Senior Back-office Engineer (TypeScript/Node)

Role Description This full-time Senior Back-office Engineer (TypeScript/Node) role is a hybrid position based in Nova Gorica, Slovenia, with the flexibility to work from home part of the time. The Senior Back-office Engineer will design, implement, and maintain backend services and APIs using TypeScript and Node.js, ensuring high performance, scalability, and reliability. Responsibilities include collaborating with product and frontend teams to define technical requirements, integrating third-party services, optimizing databases and data flows, and improving existing codebases. The role also involves monitoring system health, resolving production issues, writing automated tests, enforcing best practices in security and performance, and participating in code reviews and technical documentation. The Senior Back-office Engineer will mentor other engineers, contribute to architectural decisions, and help shape internal tools and processes to support the company’s growth.

Qualifications

• Strong troubleshooting skills and experience identifying, diagnosing, and resolving backend and infrastructure issues.
• Hands-on technical support experience, including investigating incidents, performing root cause analysis, and implementing long-term fixes.
• Solid foundation in information technology, including networks, databases, cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, or Azure), and system monitoring tools.
• Customer service mindset with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders and respond to technical requests in a clear, professional manner.
• Experience providing training or technical guidance to peers, junior engineers, or cross-functional teams.
• Expertise in TypeScript and Node.js, with proven experience building and maintaining production-grade backend services and APIs.
• Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases, query optimization, and data modeling.
• Knowledge of RESTful and/or GraphQL API design, authentication/authorization, and secure coding practices.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, containerization (e.g., Docker), and version control systems such as Git.
• Strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a hybrid, distributed team.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or equivalent practical experience.
• Experience in high-availability or large-scale systems and prior exposure to fintech, SaaS, or similar technology domains is a plus.
