Senior Backend and Cloud Engineer

About Us We are building a cutting-edge high-performance mobile app & game streaming infrastructure. We are seeking two highly skilled engineers to own, build, and scale our Stream Serving Service (SSS) from the ground up.

The Role. As a core engineer on the Stream Serving Platform team, you will build the system that provisions, connects, and manages all real time video streaming requests to our streaming infrastructure. The Stream Serving Platform is the central, most critical system in our entire product architecture. You will be responsible for high performance end-to-end distributed system design, build, test, delivery, monitoring, and continuous performance tuning. This role has high degrees of cross functional collaboration and direct impact.

What you will be doing

• System Architecture & Development: Design, build, and support the SSS and create a high performance, high availability distributed real time video stream serving system.
• Orchestration & Resource Management: Design and build background services, including processes to manage resources in the stream infrastructure (e.g. RAM, CPU, GPU, and network egress).
• Latency Optimization: Design and build the system to achieve minimum latency to create optimal user experiences. Continuously identify opportunities to optimize latency as the platform scales.
• Data & Metrics Pipelines: Implement robust OLTP data models for managing state (Runtimes, Streams, Sessions) and highly concurrent OLAP systems for tracking high-frequency streaming session metrics (round trip time, packet loss, jitter, bitrate, fps).
• DevOps & Cloud Infrastructure: Own the deployment pipeline, provision hardware/cloud resources, implement health monitoring, and provide ongoing production support.
• Collaborate with all cross functional stakeholders: Effectively collaborate and communicate with all stakeholders in a remote environment.
• Remote Role. This is a fully remote role within 3 time zones of PST. Real time collaboration with the team is required.

What we are looking for

• Coding: Top-notch coding experience on the backend in languages such as Python, Go, or Java/Kotlin.
• Backend & API Development: Proven experience building high-concurrency, low-latency systems with APIs and middleware services.
• Database Design (OLTP & OLAP): Strong ability to design and query both OLTP systems for core operational state and OLAP data stores for high-throughput event and telemetry logging.
• Cloud & Containerization: Hands-on experience in building cloud environments and containerization (e.g. docker, kubernetes).
• Hardware Resource Management: Deep understanding of Linux system resources and how to optimize parallel processing constraints regarding CPU, RAM, and GPU.
• DevOps & SRE: Experience fully managing the lifecycle of a service, including CI/CD, automated testing, alerting, and capacity planning.

You will stand out if you have

• Experience Level: 5+ years of professional backend engineering experience, including at least 2 years working on high-concurrency or real-time distributed systems in production.
• Expertise in Streaming Systems: Experience building high-performance, real-time video streaming systems in a distributed cloud environment.
• Experience in Networking Protocols: Familiarity with WebRTC, signaling servers, and tracking network metrics such as jitter, ping, and packet loss.
• Mindset & Track Record: A proven track record of building and scaling distributed systems, coupled with a growth mindset and an openness to learning new concepts.

Pay: $100,000.00 - $160,000.00 per year
