CONUS is building the clinical operating layer for surgery.

Today, doctors and OR teams still search across manufacturer PDFs, implant catalogs, hospital SOPs, outdated intranets, internal documents, WhatsApp messages, and personal memory to find critical information about implants, instruments, workflows, contacts, guidelines, and clinical evidence.

CONUS brings this knowledge into one AI powered platform. We combine hospital specific workflows, verified medical device data, clinical guidelines, SOPs, academic evidence, product information, and responsible contacts so medical teams can move from question to decision in seconds.

We are starting in orthopedics and trauma surgery, where product complexity is high, workflows are highly specific, and reliable information at the point of care matters. Our long term goal is to become the default software layer for high value clinical decisions in surgery.

The Role

We are looking for a strong Founding Engineer who can build production ready product features end to end.

This is not a narrow backend role and not a superficial full stack role. We are looking for someone who can translate complex product and domain requirements into clean, reliable, maintainable software.

You will work across backend systems, APIs, databases, infrastructure, and frontend integration. You will own features from initial technical design to production release, including data models, API design, business logic, permissions, migrations, testing, deployment, monitoring, and iteration with real users.

You might work on systems for medical document processing, structured product data, semantic search, AI workflows, hospital specific permissions, clinical knowledge retrieval, internal admin tools, and user facing product features for doctors, hospitals, and medical device manufacturers.

Your Profile

You are very strong with Python, Django, and Django REST Framework.

You understand how to build clean backend systems with well structured domain logic, authentication, permissions, serialization, API design, robust error handling, and maintainable service architecture.

You are comfortable with relational databases and data integrity. You can design clean data models, write and debug SQL, analyze and optimize PostgreSQL or MariaDB queries, use indexes properly, and run migrations safely in production environments.

You understand production infrastructure beyond local development. You have worked with Docker, Redis, caching, background jobs, CI/CD, logging, monitoring, deployment processes, and debugging production systems.

You can work with JavaScript or TypeScript, React, REST APIs, browser DevTools, frontend state, data fetching, error handling, and UI integration well enough to bring backend functionality into a usable product experience.

You care about correctness, reliability, and speed. You can move fast without creating avoidable technical debt. You are comfortable with ambiguity, take ownership, and want to work close to users.

Healthcare experience is helpful, but not required. Strong engineering judgment, product thinking, and the ability to learn a complex domain quickly matter more.
