About the Role

We are looking for a highly experienced Senior Backend Developer with at least 15 years of relevant software and backend development experience, together with strong hands-on expertise in Java and Spring Boot.

This is a senior, hands-on role with technical ownership of backend systems. You will design production-grade services, make architectural decisions, guide backend developers through code reviews and technical problem-solving, and work directly with the CEO and founding team.

What You Will Be Working On

• Authentication & Security: Custom JWT authentication, OAuth2 login, OTP-based email verification, refresh token management, role-based access control and Spring Security permissions.
• Multi-Entity Onboarding: Step-based onboarding workflows for individuals, companies, trusts, joint accounts, investor companies and seeker companies.
• KYC / KYB / AML Compliance: Third-party identity verification integrations, webhook handling, verification status synchronisation and ongoing compliance tracking.
• Capital Raising & Shareholder Workflows: Investor relationships, fundraising campaigns, shareholder records, equity distribution, cap table management, share classes and buy/sell transactions.
• API & Database Architecture: RESTful API design, PostgreSQL schema design, complex query optimisation, Hibernate/JPA entity modelling and migration management.

Key Responsibilities

• Own complex backend modules end-to-end, from database schema and business logic through to API contracts.
• Design and build scalable, secure backend services using Java and Spring Boot.
• Make architectural and technical design decisions and communicate trade-offs clearly.
• Provide technical guidance to the backend development team, including code reviews, coding standards and problem-solving support.
• Write clean, maintainable, well-tested and well-documented code.
• Collaborate with frontend developers and DevOps on integration, deployment and production support.
• Apply strong security practices across authentication, authorisation and data handling.
• Troubleshoot production issues using a structured root-cause-focused approach.

Candidate Requirements

Must Have

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum 15 years of relevant software/backend development experience, with strong hands-on Java and Spring Boot expertise.
• Strong experience designing and building production-grade backend systems and RESTful APIs beyond basic CRUD functionality.
• Deep understanding of the Spring Boot ecosystem, including Spring Security, Spring Data JPA, Spring MVC and Spring Kafka.
• Strong PostgreSQL experience, including complex queries, schema design, indexing and performance optimization.
• Solid understanding of JWT, OAuth2, role-based access control and session management.
• Experience with Hibernate/JPA and ORM performance considerations, including N+1 queries, lazy loading and query optimisation.
• Experience writing automated tests using JUnit, Mockito or similar tools.
• Strong understanding of SOLID principles, clean architecture and design patterns.
• Experience with Redux for caching or session management.
• Proficiency with Git and experience working in Agile or iterative development environments.
• Experience providing technical leadership, mentoring or code-review guidance to backend developers.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

Highly Preferred

• Experience in fintech, compliance-heavy or regulated-industry platforms.
• Familiarity with KYC / KYB / AML workflows or third-party identity verification providers.
• Experience with Apache Kafka or event-driven architecture.
• Experience with Azure cloud services and blob storage.
• Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience working in an early-stage startup environment.
• Full stack will be an added advantage.
