Senior Backend Developer

Our client is a leading global e-commerce company in Japan operating a large-scale online marketplace. The company is committed to delivering reliable, scalable, and high-performance digital services while continuously enhancing the shopping experience for customers and business partners.

We are seeking an experienced Senior Backend Developer to join a growing engineering team responsible for developing, optimizing, and scaling a large-scale e-commerce platform.

In this role, you will take ownership of system architecture, drive technical decision-making, and improve system performance, stability, and reliability. You will collaborate closely with product managers and global engineering teams to build robust backend solutions that support the platform's continued growth and evolving business needs.

Key Responsibilities

Lead requirements definition, system design, development, testing, and deployment.

Collaborate with product managers, engineers, and cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality solutions.

Monitor system stability and performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement improvements.

Design, maintain, and optimize system architecture to ensure scalability, reliability, and maintainability.

Lead technical discussions, architecture reviews, and engineering decision-making.

Investigate production incidents, conduct root cause analysis, and implement preventive measures.

Work closely with related teams to improve system performance and overall service quality.

Mandatory Qualifications

・System Development & Operations: Experience in system development and operations using Java, Spring Framework, React, etc. (7+ Years of Experience)

・Cloud & Container Experience: Experience in system design and operations using Kubernetes, Docker, AWS, etc.

・Architecture Leadership: Experience in overseeing entire systems and leading design and technical decision-making with consideration for layer structures, domain boundaries, maintainability, scalability, and availability.

・Performance Engineering: Experience in designing load tests based on system characteristics and identifying/improving bottlenecks across applications, middleware, caches, and databases.

・Reliability Engineering: Experience in predicting risks and failure factors in production environments, as well as leading analysis, problem-solving, root cause analysis (RCA), and recurrence prevention for major incidents.

・Business/Technical Translation: Experience in explaining technical issues in terms of business risks and growth opportunities to facilitate appropriate prioritization and decision-making.

・Problem-Solving Skills: Experience in structuring issues by working backward from business goals, and driving results by making flexible judgments and course corrections using hypotheses, even in uncertain situations.

・Global Communication: Ability to conduct technical discussions, design reviews, incident response, and stakeholder coordination in English.

Preferred Qualifications

・Large-Scale Service Experience: Experience in the design, development, and operation of high-traffic or mission-critical services.

・EC Domain Experience: Development and operations experience in the commerce domain, such as EC, marketplaces, payments, orders, inventory, or search.

・Distributed Systems Experience: Experience in system design and operations using microservices, event-driven architecture, Kafka, etc.

・Database Design & Operations: Experience in the design, performance analysis, and tuning of PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, etc.

・Observability Experience: Experience in system improvement utilizing Monitoring, Tracing, and Logging.

・AI Utilization Experience: Experience in improving development efficiency or developing services by utilizing generative AI or AI development support tools.

・Japanese Communication Skills: Ability to conduct technical discussions, organize requirements, coordinate with stakeholders, or create documentation in Japanese.

Salary: ¥9M – ¥12M JPY per year (Senior Level)

Location: Hybrid (4 days in the office, 1 day remote)

Working Hours: Flexible schedule with core hours from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM
