Senior Backend Developer (Digital Payments)

We are working with an established Norwegian technology organisation developing secure, business-critical payment and identity services.

Its technology supports essential digital-payment journeys and is expanding into new international markets. This creates an opportunity to build new functionality, modernise an established platform and solve complex challenges across financial infrastructure, cloud technology and security.

ABOUT THE POSITION

We are looking for an experienced Backend Developer to join a specialist digital-payments team in Oslo.

This is primarily a software-development position, but it offers broader ownership than a traditional backend role. You will help design, build, deploy and operate the services you develop, contributing across application code, cloud infrastructure, architecture and production performance.

The team is expanding because of continued growth, new projects and increasing demand across the organisation.

WHAT YOU WILL WORK ON

You will help the team:

• Design and develop secure backend services, primarily using Java
• Build new payment functionality for international markets
• Migrate and develop services within an AWS environment
• Define and manage cloud infrastructure using Terraform
• Take ownership of services from development through to production
• Improve platform reliability, performance and operational resilience
• Contribute across architecture, infrastructure, automation and security
• Monitor live services and resolve production issues
• Influence technical decisions and ways of working
• Collaborate within an experienced agile product team

CORE SKILLS

We would like to speak with developers who have:

• Strong commercial backend-development experience
• Professional Java experience and an interest in continuing to work primarily with Java
• Experience building and operating services in AWS
• Practical exposure to infrastructure as code, ideally Terraform
• Experience owning software throughout its production lifecycle
• A good understanding of reliable, scalable and secure system design
• A collaborative and product-focused engineering mindset
• Professional fluency in English

RELEVANT ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE

Experience in any of the following areas would be beneficial:

• Kubernetes or other containerised platforms
• Payments, tokenisation and PCI DSS
• DevOps, platform engineering or production operations
• High-availability or transaction-critical systems
• Digital wallets and modern payment infrastructure
• Norwegian language skills

Previous payments experience is valuable but not essential. Strong engineers from other cloud-based, regulated or business-critical environments can learn the domain within the team.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

The position is based in central Oslo and offers 2 days of home office flexibility

The engineering environment operates in English. Norwegian is beneficial but not required.
