Location: San Ramon, CA (4 days onsite per week)

Alternative Location: Beverly Hills, CA (for exceptional candidates)

Duration: 6-Month Contract with Strong Extension and/or Conversion Potential

Start Date: ASAP

Compensation : $70-80/Hour

About the Opportunity

A market-leading consumer brand is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join its engineering team. This is an opportunity for a highly experienced engineer who enjoys solving complex backend challenges, influencing technical direction, mentoring developers, and building scalable systems that support a rapidly growing business.

The ideal candidate will bring a blend of hands-on development expertise, architectural leadership, and a passion for driving engineering excellence.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs
• Lead architecture discussions and technical decision-making
• Participate in hands-on coding throughout the development lifecycle
• Conduct code reviews and establish engineering best practices
• Mentor engineers and help improve overall team performance
• Evaluate technical tradeoffs related to performance, scalability, and functionality
• Collaborate with cross-functional partners on new initiatives and product enhancements
• Contribute to proof-of-concepts, system improvements, and modernization efforts

Required Qualifications

• 12+ years of software engineering experience
• Strong backend development experience in large-scale environments
• Deep expertise in software architecture and system design
• Strong coding skills and the ability to contribute hands-on
• Proven experience conducting code reviews and enforcing development standards
• Experience mentoring engineers and providing technical leadership
• Strong understanding of cloud-native application development
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills
