SENIOR BACKEND ENGINEER (JAVA) – PAYMENTS & INTEGRATIONS

Job Summary

We are seeking a Senior Backend Engineer with strong experience in Java, Spring Boot, and financial integrations to build and maintain the Bank's payment infrastructure and third-party integrations. The role will focus on NIBSS Instant Payment (NIP), AML and transaction-monitoring integrations, settlement, reconciliation, and secure payment processing.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and maintain NIBSS NIP services including name enquiry, outward transfers, TSQ, inward credits, and reversals.
• Integrate AML screening, transaction monitoring, fraud detection, and KYC providers.
• Build settlement and reconciliation processes with effective exception handling.
• Lead third-party partner onboarding and technical integration.
• Design secure APIs and integration services with appropriate authentication, encryption, and audit trails.
• Monitor payment success rates, latency, and integration performance.
• Lead incident diagnosis and production support.
• Conduct code reviews and mentor backend engineers.

Requirements

• 3+ years of backend development experience with Java and Spring Boot.
• Hands-on experience with NIBSS NIP, either directly or through an aggregator, is highly required.
• Experience building financial or payment integrations in Nigeria.
• Experience with AML, fraud, transaction monitoring, KYC, or other compliance systems.
• Strong understanding of payment processing, settlement, and reconciliation.
• Strong REST API, SQL, and secure integration skills.
• Knowledge of encryption, message signing, key management, and secure handling of personal data.
• Kafka, Docker, AWS, or similar technologies are an advantage.
• Experience mentoring engineers and leading technical decisions.

Pay: ₦600,000.00 - ₦800,000.00 per month
