The Role

We're looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to design, build, and scale the microservices behind our core financial products. You'll own services end to end, from design to production, in a cloud-native environment running on Kubernetes with CI/CD through Jenkins. You'll work closely with product, DevOps, QA, and security teams to deliver systems that handle real money at scale.

What You'll Do

• Design, develop, and maintain secure, high-performance microservices using Java and Spring Boot
• Build and integrate RESTful APIs and event-driven services for payments, transfers, wallets, and account management
• Deploy, monitor, and troubleshoot containerized services on Kubernetes (K8s) using Docker and Helm
• Build and maintain Jenkins CI/CD pipelines for automated testing, builds, and deployments
• Integrate with third-party financial systems such as NIBSS (NIP), card schemes, switches, and banking partners
• Write clean, testable code with strong unit and integration test coverage (JUnit, Mockito, Testcontainers)
• Ensure services meet security and compliance standards, including PCI DSS, CBN guidelines, and the NDPA
• Improve observability through logging, metrics, and tracing (e.g. Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, OpenTelemetry)
• Take part in code reviews, architecture discussions, and on-call rotation
• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers

What You'll Bring

• 4–6 years of professional backend development experience with Java (8+, ideally 17+)
• Strong hands-on experience with Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, Spring Security, and Spring Data JPA
• Proven experience designing and running microservices in production
• Practical experience deploying and managing applications on Kubernetes and Docker
• Experience building and maintaining Jenkins pipelines
• Solid knowledge of relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, or Oracle) and familiarity with NoSQL (MongoDB, Redis)
• Experience with message brokers such as Kafka or RabbitMQ
• Good understanding of distributed systems concepts: idempotency, transaction consistency, retries, and circuit breakers
• Familiarity with Git and agile or Scrum workflows
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience

Nice to Have

• Prior experience in fintech, banking, or payments (ISO 8583, ISO 20022, NIP, card processing)
• Experience with a cloud platform (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
• Knowledge of API gateways (Kong, Spring Cloud Gateway) and service mesh (Istio)
• Infrastructure-as-code experience (Terraform, Ansible)
• Relevant certifications (Oracle Certified Java Professional, CKAD/CKA)

Pay: From ₦800,000.00 per month
