Senior Backend (Node) Engineer – AWS & GraphQL

We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join a team working on a cloud-native platform built around TypeScript, Node.js and AWS serverless technologies.

The role combines backend development, GraphQL API design and serverless architecture. We are looking for someone who can contribute hands-on, take ownership of technical decisions and proactively help improve the way the platform is designed and built.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and improve backend services using TypeScript and Node.js.
• Build and evolve GraphQL APIs using Apollo Server and AWS AppSync.
• Develop serverless solutions using AWS Lambda and API Gateway.
• Work with AWS services such as DynamoDB, SQS and SNS.
• Design and maintain infrastructure using AWS CDK.
• Contribute to workflow orchestration and event-driven backend architectures.
• Improve monitoring, logging and overall observability of backend services.
• Review existing technical solutions and suggest architectural improvements.
• Collaborate closely with other engineers through technical discussions, pair programming and knowledge sharing.
• Help define and promote best practices around GraphQL and AWS serverless development.

Required skills

• Strong experience with TypeScript and Node.js.
• Solid hands-on experience with AWS serverless architectures.
• Strong experience with AWS Lambda.
• Good experience with GraphQL and Apollo Server.
• Experience with AWS AppSync.
• Experience with AWS API Gateway.
• Hands-on experience with AWS services such as DynamoDB, SQS and SNS.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code, preferably AWS CDK.
• Good understanding of event-driven and distributed architectures.
• Strong ownership mindset and ability to proactively identify and suggest improvements.

Nice to have

• Experience with AWS Step Functions and serverless orchestration.
• Experience with observability, distributed tracing and monitoring.
• Experience with vector databases or semantic/vector search, particularly pgvector.
• Experience with hybrid or faceted search.
• React or broader full-stack development experience.
• AWS Fargate experience.
