What they need
Who We Are
Provoke is a global consulting firm building AI-native solutions that transform how work gets done. Founded on a culture of innovation, growth, and curiosity, we partner with global clients to design and deploy agentic AI embedded directly into workflows so teams move faster, think smarter, and scale with purpose.
Overview
We are seeking a Senior Data Engineer and BI Developer to own the client data platform end to end, from raw source ingestion through the curated data models that power reporting. This is a hands-on, engineering-first role. The core of the work is building and operating ingestion pipelines and medallion-layer transformations in Microsoft Fabric. Report development in Power BI is part of the role, but it is secondary to the data engineering responsibilities. We are looking for versatile problem solvers who thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative, client-focused environment.
Key Responsibilities
Data Engineering
- Builds and maintains ingestion pipelines that bring data from sources such as DynamoDB, InfluxDB, and S3 into Microsoft Fabric
- Designs and builds Bronze, Silver, and Gold transformations, including incremental processing, change data capture, and schema evolution
- Works with semi-structured data such as DynamoDB documents, flattening and modeling it for reliable downstream use
- Designs the Gold layer using dimensional modeling to build enterprise-ready datasets, and tunes pipeline and query performance
- Writes and troubleshoots T-SQL and PySpark transformations, enforces data quality, and diagnoses data issues back to their source
- Owns the data platform in production and troubleshoots issues end to end across both the AWS ingestion path (DynamoDB Streams, Lambda, Firehose, S3) and Fabric, tracing failures back to their root cause and driving them to resolution
- Builds automated data quality validation, reconciliation, and monitoring, with alerting and observability across the pipelines to keep the production platform reliable
Reporting & Dashboards
- Designs and deploys Power BI reports from Fabric Gold-layer data, writes DAX measures for enterprise KPIs, and owns the report lifecycle from requirements through end-user testing
- Configures and supports Power BI reports embedded in SharePoint Online with Entra ID token passthrough
Security & Governance
- Implements Row-Level Security via Entra ID and documents data flows and KPI definitions for governance
- Authors operational runbooks and as-built documentation for deployment, RLS validation, and handoff
Stakeholder Management
- Translates client business requirements into data models and report designs, and supports backlog triage and estimation
- Acts as a trusted technical advisor to client stakeholders, explaining complex data and reporting issues in plain, non-technical language
- Operates within client-controlled environments and approval gates, and adapts to each client's tools and processes
- Produces client-ready deliverables and leads knowledge transfer so client teams can operate and support the solution once handed over
Required Skills & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, business, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered
- 4+ years of data engineering experience with hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric or an equivalent Azure Synapse/Databricks environment with the ability to ramp up quickly on Fabric
- 2+ years of Power BI development desired, including advanced data modeling and DAX
- Strong PySpark and SQL skills; experience with medallion architecture and Delta Lake
- Working knowledge of cloud-native data services (streaming, serverless compute, object storage)
- Experience with RLS/CLS design and Entra ID-based security models
- Strong communication skills and ability to lead through influence; experience with Jira and Agile/SCRUM methodology
Desirable Qualifications
- Experience with AWS services such as S3, DynamoDB, Lambda, and Firehose, and with event-driven ingestion
- Familiarity with SharePoint, Microsoft Entra ID, and external partner reporting
- Microsoft certifications: DP-600, DP-203, or equivalent
- Experience with Power BI CI/CD and deployment pipelines
- Background in regulated industries (for example: healthcare, telecom, finance)
