Senior Bookkeeper

Superior Pet Goods
Location: Braeside, Victoria
Full-Time | Monday to Friday | 8:30am–5:00pm

Join a Brand That's Passionate About Pets

At Superior Pet Goods, pets aren't just animals – they're cherished members of our families.

As a proudly Australian, family-owned business, we design and supply premium pet products that combine style, comfort, durability and functionality. Our products are created with purpose and inspired by the everyday moments that make life with pets so rewarding.

As our business continues to grow across Australia, we are looking for an experienced Senior Bookkeeper to join our team and take ownership of the day-to-day finance function.

Working closely with the Owner, Business Development Manager and Chief Financial Officer, this is an opportunity for an experienced bookkeeping professional who enjoys having responsibility, understands the bigger financial picture and is confident working independently.

About the Role

This is a hands-on, all-round finance role suited to an experienced bookkeeper who can confidently manage the accounts through to trial balance.

You will have a strong understanding of the general ledger, reconciliations and the flow of transactions through an accounting system, with the ability to investigate discrepancies, identify issues and resolve them independently.

You will be responsible for the day-to-day financial operations of the business, including accounts payable and receivable, reconciliations, payroll administration, cash flow, reporting and month-end processes.

The successful candidate will be a self-motivated and organised all-rounder with excellent attention to detail, strong problem-solving skills and a practical, can-do approach.

You will need to be comfortable working independently while also communicating effectively with a range of internal and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day financial and bookkeeping functions of the business through to trial balance.

  • Manage Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable, including invoice processing, payments, allocations and follow-up of outstanding accounts.

  • Process and reconcile bank accounts and company credit cards, ensuring transactions are accurately recorded and supported.

  • Maintain the general ledger and investigate and resolve reconciliation discrepancies.

  • Manage payroll administration, including payroll-related reconciliations and statutory requirements.

  • Prepare information and reporting for BAS, PAYG, Payroll Tax, FBT and other statutory obligations, in conjunction with external accountants and advisers where required.

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly and financial year-end processes.

  • Monitor the company's financial position and cash flow, including transactions involving foreign currency.

  • Prepare and report on inventory accounting and reconciliations, including stock costing, inventory levels, and stock ordering and purchasing requirements.

  • Prepare financial information and reports for management and the CFO.

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date accounting records and management information systems.

  • Assist with the implementation, maintenance and ongoing improvement of ERP systems to streamline workflows, improve efficiency and enhance financial and operational processes.

  • Work closely with external accountants and CFO as required.

  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, reduce costs and streamline financial and administrative functions.

  • Assist with the ongoing development and improvement of accounting systems and procedures.

  • Undertake other finance and administration responsibilities as required.

About You

We are looking for someone who brings strong technical bookkeeping skills together with commercial awareness, initiative and a solutions-focused mindset.

You will ideally have:

  • 3 - 5+ years' experience in a similar bookkeeping or finance role, preferably within an SME or privately owned business.
  • Strong knowledge of bookkeeping principles, accounting processes and general ledger management.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage accounts through to trial balance.
  • Experience with month-end, year-end and financial reconciliations.
  • Experience with inventory and/or product-based businesses, preferably with some understanding of manufacturing processes.
  • Strong Excel skills and confidence working with ERP/accounting systems.
  • Experience working with overseas suppliers and foreign currency transactions.
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to work independently, prioritise competing demands and meet deadlines.
  • A proactive approach to identifying issues and improving processes.
  • A positive, adaptable and collaborative attitude.
  • High levels of integrity, confidentiality and accountability.

Most importantly, we are looking for someone who takes pride in their work, is willing to learn and adapt as the business evolves and can become a trusted member of the team.

What We Offer

  • Full-time, permanent position based in Braeside, Victoria.
  • Monday to Friday, 8:30am–5:00pm.
  • An opportunity to take ownership of a broad finance function within a growing Australian family-owned business.
  • A collaborative working environment where your ideas and initiative are valued.
  • The opportunity to contribute to improving systems, processes and the financial operations of the business.

Salary and conditions will be negotiated based on experience and suitability for the role.

Superannuation, annual leave, long service leave and other statutory entitlements will be provided in accordance with applicable legislation.
