Senior C++ Software Engineer

Purpose of the Job:

The purpose of this role is to design, develop, and optimize high-performance software that advances scientific, engineering, and AI-driven applications. As a Senior C++ Software Engineer, you’ll build and refine scalable computational tools, develop efficient algorithms for modern computing architectures and HPC clusters, and collaborate with researchers to translate complex computational challenges into reliable software solutions. You’ll lead by example—taking ownership of technical solutions, mentoring junior engineers, promoting high-quality code and sound software design practices, and representing the team through documentation, presentations, and technical engagements.

Responsibilities and Duties:

• Develop and optimize high-performance software applications for scientific, engineering, and AI-driven use cases.
• Design new software tools and refactor existing applications using sound software architecture, modular design, and maintainable coding practices.
• Develop and implement efficient algorithms that leverage multicore processors, GPUs, and high-performance computing clusters.
• Collaborate with subject matter experts, domain scientists, and researchers to understand computational needs and translate them into efficient software solutions compatible with existing infrastructure and workflows.
• Work independently or as part of a small team, engaging with stakeholders and customers to understand requirements, make technical decisions, and deliver solutions that meet their needs.
• Participate in code reviews, team meetings, and technical discussions, contributing expertise to improve software quality, performance, and development practices.
• Contribute to technical reports, user documentation, regular status reports, and presentations to communicate findings, guidance, and technical information to different audiences.
• Guide and mentor junior engineers, providing technical support, feedback, and knowledge sharing.
• Travel according to business needs, including attending conferences or workshops and visiting client sites to provide technical expertise, support, and training as necessary.

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline.

Experience:

• 3+ years of professional software engineering experience.

Skills and Abilities:

• High proficiency in C++, including software design, memory management, and performance-oriented programming; knowledge of C is an advantage.
• Proficiency in one or more scripting or scientific programming languages, such as Python.
• Experience with parallel programming using MPI, OpenMP, oneAPI, CUDA, or comparable concurrency and parallel computing technologies.
• Good knowledge of version control systems, particularly Git.
• Working knowledge of CI/CD tools and practices.
• Basic knowledge of container technologies.
• Knowledge of performance profiling, optimization techniques, and parallel or distributed execution.
• Basic understanding of one or more of the following:
• Computer hardware architecture
• High-performance computing systems and environments
• Knowledge of one or more of the following areas is a plus:
• Numerical solvers and methods, e.g., finite difference, finite element, or finite volume methods
• Data science and AI/ML applications
• Strong understanding of software design principles, programming techniques, data structures, and algorithms.
• Strong understanding of software architecture, including modularity, scalability, and maintainability.
• Hands-on experience implementing and optimizing computational algorithms.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, including experience working with multidisciplinary teams.
• Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
