What they need
We are looking for an experienced, trade-qualified Senior Cabinetmaker / Estimator who is ready to take the next step in their career.
My client is a long-established Auckland custom joinery business with approximately 30 years' experience producing high-quality bespoke cabinetry and joinery for designers, builders, architects, commercial clients and private homeowners.
Initially the role will be approximately 50% hands-on cabinet making and 50% pricing, customer liaison and production coordination. Over time, the successful person will take increasing responsibility for the day-to-day operations of the business and spend less time on the tools.
Key Responsibilities:
- Production & Trade: Hands-on manufacture, site measuring, delivery, assistance with site installations, CNC/CAD operation and plan interpretation.
- Estimating & Admin: Prepare quotes, order materials, track job progress for invoicing and modernise internal systems and pricing.
- Leadership & Client Relations: Manage factory workflow, manage and mentor staff, H and S advocate and liaise directly with architects, builders, and clients.
About you:
- Experience: Trade qualification with 5+ years in high-end residential, kitchen, and commercial joinery in both factory production and on-site installations.
- Skills: Strong CNC/CAD capability, confident reading and interpreting architectural and designer plans, production coordination, and problem-solving. Comfortable adopting new technologies and systems. Ability to lead a small production team.
- Attributes: Excellent communication skills, leadership ability, professional customer-facing demeanor, well organised, business-savvy. Warm, personable and mature in your approach. You must be someone who is well-presented, builds trust quickly and represents the business professionally.
- Must-haves: Full NZ driver’s licence and own standard cabinetmaking hand-tools.
What makes this opportunity different?
This role will suit an experienced cabinetmaker who enjoys the trade but does not want to spend their entire time solely on the tools. You may already be involved in estimating, coordination of projects, leading others and be looking for an opportunity to develop further.
You will have the benefit of working directly alongside the current owner to learn the business, its customers and its established methods before progressively assuming greater responsibility.
This is an opportunity for an experienced tradesperson who understands joinery from the factory floor through to installation but is now looking to broaden their responsibilities and play a key role in the future of an established business.
The package:
- Full-time, Monday to Friday, 7:30am-5:00pm (45 hours per week).
- Competitive remuneration
- Performance bonus opportunity.
- Vehicle/vehicle allowance and phone.
- KiwiSaver.
Apply:
If you are a highly experienced cabinetmaker who is ready to combine your technical skills with greater responsibility for customers, pricing and production, we would like to hear from you.
Apply with your CV and a short cover letter telling us why you are perfect for the role.
Only applicants eligible to work in NZ should apply.
