Senior Civil Engineer

This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced Senior Civil Engineer who enjoys solving challenging technical problems, building strong client relationships, and taking real ownership of project outcomes. We are also open to candidates already operating at Project Director or Technical Director level, who are looking to bring their experience into a business with a strong reputation and a high-quality pipeline of work.

At Holmes, you will join a well-established and highly respected engineering consultancy with a long history of delivering some of New Zealand's most interesting and technically demanding projects. You will work alongside talented engineers and technical leaders, contribute to meaningful infrastructure outcomes, and help shape projects from early proposal stages through to successful delivery.

What you'll do

• Lead the delivery of complex civil engineering projects from proposal through to completion
• Provide technical direction across a broad range of infrastructure design work
• Build and maintain strong client relationships, contributing to repeat work and new opportunities
• Take ownership of project outcomes, including quality, programme, commercial performance and delivery
• Work collaboratively with internal teams and clients to solve technically challenging problems
• Mentor and support developing engineers, sharing knowledge and helping build capability across the team
• Contribute to business development and help strengthen Holmes' presence in the Wellington market

What you'll bring
You will bring strong civil engineering and infrastructure design experience across a wide variety of project types and design elements. We are particularly interested in people with experience across some or all of general civils, three waters, roading, geometrics, pavement design, pipe networks, pressure pipes and pump systems. Ideally, you will also bring a civil background with experience in reservoirs and treatment plants.
You will be a technically capable and commercially aware engineer with proven experience leading projects and building trusted client relationships. You will be confident working across both technical delivery and stakeholder engagement, and comfortable contributing from proposals through to project completion. Strong communication skills, sound judgement and the ability to mentor or lead other engineers will be important in this role.
