THE OPPORTUNITY

Are you a Senior Civil or Project Engineer in New Zealand with an EU passport?

Europe’s data centre boom is creating substantial opportunities for engineers who have built strong construction experience in New Zealand and are ready to do something completely different with it. We are recruiting across Finland, Sweden, Germany, the Netherlands and potentially Portugal, on some of the largest and most technically challenging data centre projects in the European market.

These are not necessarily traditional relocation roles where you need to permanently move to the project location. Many of these projects operate on 17/4 or 10/4 rotations, with accommodation and project flights paid in full — which opens up a very different kind of lifestyle.

Depending on the project, you could base yourself in another EU city and fly in for your rotation. Spend 17 days contributing to a major project in Finland or Sweden, then spend your time off at home or exploring Europe — Dublin, Lisbon, Madrid, Barcelona, Rome, Warsaw, Prague, wherever you want your base to be.

WHERE YOU COULD WORK

Finland — major data centre construction, low-tax arrangements on qualifying projects, and a fantastic outdoor lifestyle in one of Europe’s most developed countries.

Sweden — significant project investment, attractive tax arrangements for qualifying candidates, and Scandinavian quality of life.

Germany — substantial demand across data centres and major construction, excellent European connectivity, and some of the most significant projects in the market.

Netherlands — international construction opportunities, with Amsterdam and the wider country providing an exceptional base for exploring the rest of Europe.

Portugal — potential upcoming opportunities combining major-project experience with sunshine, coastline, lower living costs and a completely different pace of life.

WHAT THE PACKAGES INCLUDE

• Accommodation paid in full
• Project and rotation flights paid in full
• 10/4 or 17/4 rotation patterns, depending on the project
• Living away and travel allowances on top of base salary on selected projects
• Attractive tax arrangements on qualifying assignments
• Sign-on bonuses available on some projects

WHAT THE MOVE CAN LOOK LIKE

A Senior Project Manager we recently placed from Wellington was earning NZ$140,000 plus a vehicle. He moved to a major data centre project in Germany on the following first-year package:

Base salary — €125,000 (approx. NZ$250,000)

Living away allowance — €20,000 (approx. NZ$40,000)

Travel allowance — €12,000 (approx. NZ$24,000)

Sign-on bonus — €10,000 (approx. NZ$20,000)

Total first-year cash package — €167,000 (approx. NZ$334,000)

Accommodation and project flights were paid in full by the employer, on top of the figures above.

WHERE THIS COULD TAKE YOU

For an ambitious engineer, this is about considerably more than the immediate package. It is an opportunity to build European data centre experience at a point when that experience is scarce and valuable, to progress towards project management, and to increase your earning potential substantially for the rest of your career.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

• Experience as a Senior Civil Engineer or Project Engineer, with a strong civil engineering background
• Substantial exposure to large-scale construction projects — data centre or mission critical experience is beneficial but not essential
• Sound technical capability alongside good coordination, programme and stakeholder management skills
• Consistent company tenure. Our clients on these programmes look for stability, and applications showing an average of 18 months to two years per employer are unlikely to progress
• Comfortable working a rotational pattern on international projects
• EU passport is essential for these roles — we are unable to progress applications without one
