Senior Civil/Structural Engineer - Specialist Concrete Engineering

About the opportunity

Face Consultants is an established specialist engineering consultancy and a recognised international leader in the design, assessment and performance of industrial concrete floors.

We are looking for an experienced Civil or Structural Engineer to join our engineering team, working on a diverse range of technically challenging projects across the UK and internationally.

This is an opportunity to apply your existing structural engineering knowledge and experience within a highly specialised field, developing expertise in complex concrete floor design, structural assessment and engineering consultancy.

Previous experience in industrial floor design is not essential. We are looking for someone with a strong technical background, sound engineering judgement and an interest in developing specialist expertise. We will provide the technical support and development necessary to build on your existing experience.

The role

You will be involved in the design, assessment and technical delivery of industrial concrete flooring projects, working alongside an experienced team of engineers and specialist consultants.

Responsibilities will include:

• Undertaking structural analysis, design and engineering calculations for concrete slabs, foundations and associated structures.
• Developing, interpreting and validating finite element analysis (FEA) models to assess structural behaviour and performance under complex loading conditions.
• Assessing structural performance under a range of loading conditions, including those associated with industrial storage, automation and materials handling systems.
• Preparing and reviewing technical calculations, specifications, drawings and engineering reports.
• Undertaking independent technical reviews and critical assessments of third-party designs, providing engineering recommendations and practical solutions.
• Liaising with clients, contractors and other design professionals to resolve technical challenges and develop practical engineering solutions.
• Managing engineering projects, coordinating technical deliverables and maintaining effective communication with project stakeholders.
• Participating in client meetings, supporting existing client relationships and contributing to business development activities.
• Supporting the technical development of junior engineers.
• Contributing to the ongoing development of our engineering services, technical standards and capabilities.

The role also offers opportunities for international travel, including involvement in overseas projects and direct engagement with clients and project teams around the world.

About you

We are looking for an experienced engineer with a strong technical background and the ability to apply sound engineering principles to complex and sometimes unconventional challenges.

The successful candidate will have:

• A degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, or an equivalent qualification.
• Relevant professional experience in civil or structural engineering, ideally within a consultancy environment.
• Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status as a minimum, with Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or progression towards chartership preferred.
• A sound understanding of structural engineering principles, materials and relevant design standards.
• Experience in the structural design and assessment of concrete structures.
• A good level of practical experience in finite element analysis (FEA), including the development, interpretation and validation of structural models.
• The ability to work independently, take responsibility for technical deliverables and exercise sound engineering judgement.
• Strong communication skills and a practical, analytical approach to problem-solving.

Experience in industrial flooring, ground-bearing slabs or specialist foundation design would be advantageous, but is not essential.

We are particularly interested in engineers who enjoy technical challenges, are comfortable questioning established approaches and have an interest in developing their knowledge beyond conventional structural engineering applications.
