Senior Cloud & Platform Engineer

**ABOUT THE ROLE:**The Senior Systems and Cloud Engineer is the senior Level 3 technical escalation and engineering generalist for the organisation. This is not solely a specialist Microsoft 365, cloud, or end-user computing role.  Although this is part of the job, the successful candidate must have current, hands-on capability across network, server, virtualisation, cloud, identity, endpoint, and core infrastructure technologies.

They operate a hybrid and evolving technology environment, and this role owns the reliability, security, lifecycle, and continuous improvement of both legacy and modern platforms while they continue their transition to cloud services.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES:
The role is responsible for the design, implementation, operation, monitoring, and troubleshooting of core infrastructure, including firewalls, switching, wireless, DNS, DHCP, Windows Server, Virtualisation, backup
and recovery, Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Intune, and associated integrations. It leads complex incident resolution and root cause analysis.

**ABOUT YOU:**We are seeking someone with exceptional communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills.  In addition, you will need:

• Substantial recent experience operating as a hands-on senior systems or infrastructure engineer in a hybrid environment, with responsibility across both on-premises and cloud services.
• Demonstrable Level 3 capability in enterprise networking, including firewalls, switching, wireless, VLANs, VPNs, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and systematic fault diagnosis.
• Strong Windows Server and Active Directory experience, including Group Policy, hybrid identity, patching, hardening, lifecycle management, and complex troubleshooting.
• Hands-on experience with Virtualisation, backup and recovery, monitoring, and infrastructure resilience. Experience must include performing or leading diagnosis and remediation, not solely coordinating a managed provider.
• Strong Microsoft cloud and modern workplace experience, including Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint Online, Intune, Conditional Access, and endpoint management.
• Experience supporting hybrid integration and migration from legacy or on-premises services to cloud platforms.
• Strong PowerShell capability and practical experience using automation to improve provisioning, compliance, reporting, configuration, or operational consistency.
• Demonstrated ownership of complex incidents, root cause analysis, technical changes, and infrastructure or platform projects through to stable operational handover.
• Ability to evaluate and challenge vendor recommendations, validate technical work, and retain internal ownership of service outcomes.
• Strong technical documentation and evidence discipline, including diagrams, build and configuration records, changes, operational procedures, recovery information, tickets, and knowledge articles.
• Experience operating within formal change, risk, security, and audit controls.
