Position Overview

Our client is seeking a Senior DevOps / Cloud Engineer to support the Ontario Clinical Report Exchange (OCRE) project. The successful candidate will design, provision, automate, operate, and troubleshoot AWS infrastructure and deployment pipelines supporting application, integration, data-processing, and frontend components.

The role requires strong hands-on experience with GitHub Actions, AWS Cloud Development Kit (CDK), AWS networking and security, containerized applications, and cloud infrastructure operations. The engineer will support automated deployments, infrastructure provisioning, production troubleshooting, and secure, reliable cloud services.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and maintain GitHub Actions workflows for automated builds, testing, security scanning, infrastructure deployment, environment promotion, approvals, and rollback.
• Develop and maintain AWS CDK infrastructure using JavaScript/Python and reusable constructs, including CloudFormation deployment and troubleshooting.
• Deploy and operate Docker workloads using Amazon ECS, AWS Fargate, and Amazon ECR, including load balancing, scaling, health checks, logging, and runtime troubleshooting.
• Provision and support AWS Glue jobs and connections, Amazon Data Firehose delivery streams, and AWS Database Migration Service (DMS) endpoints and tasks.
• Configure and troubleshoot AWS Glue networking, including subnet selection, security groups, DNS, routing, network interfaces (ENIs), NAT gateways, and VPC endpoints.
• Manage AWS networking and security, including VPCs, route tables, IAM roles and policies, KMS keys, encryption, and service permissions.
• Provision and maintain frontend infrastructure using Amazon S3, CloudFront, and AWS WAF, including certificates, DNS, cache policies, access controls, and security configurations.
• Manage EC2 launch templates and Auto Scaling groups, including instance configuration, health checks, scaling policies, patching, and troubleshooting.
• Implement monitoring, logging, dashboards, alarms, and operational diagnostics using AWS observability tools.
• Collaborate with architecture, development, data, security, privacy, QA, and operations teams to resolve issues and meet infrastructure requirements.
• Maintain technical documentation, infrastructure designs, network diagrams, deployment procedures, runbooks, test evidence, and knowledge-transfer materials.

Mandatory Qualifications

• Public-sector experience: Demonstrated experience working in public-sector environments.
• CI/CD: Strong hands-on experience with GitHub Actions, including reusable workflows, secure AWS authentication, automated testing, deployment approvals, environment promotion, rollback, and troubleshooting.
• Infrastructure as Code: Practical experience developing AWS CDK applications using JavaScript and/or Python, including reusable constructs, configuration, testing, synthesis, deployment, and CloudFormation troubleshooting.
• Containers and Compute: Strong experience with Docker, Amazon ECS on AWS Fargate, Amazon ECR, and EC2 Auto Scaling, including service configuration, load balancing, scaling, health checks, observability, and runtime troubleshooting.
• AWS Networking and Security: Experience with VPCs, public/private subnets, route tables, NAT, VPC endpoints, DNS, security groups, IAM, KMS keys, encryption, and network connectivity troubleshooting.
• AWS Data Services: Hands-on provisioning and operational support for AWS Glue, Amazon Data Firehose, and AWS DMS.
• Frontend Infrastructure: Experience with Amazon S3, CloudFront, and AWS WAF.
• Production Operations: Ability to troubleshoot infrastructure and deployment failures, support production incidents, and implement monitoring and logging.

5. Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with GitHub OIDC federation for AWS, protected environments, least-privilege pipeline roles, and deployment approvals.
• Knowledge of JavaScript build tools, Java build tooling, CDK unit testing, infrastructure policy validation, CloudFormation change sets, and drift detection.
• Experience with Amazon CloudWatch, CloudTrail, AWS Config, Systems Manager, Secrets Manager, Route 53, and AWS Certificate Manager.
• Experience supporting regulated healthcare or public-sector workloads requiring encryption, privacy-aware logging, auditability, change control, resilience, backup, and recovery.

Candidates should be able to demonstrate:

1. GitHub Actions and AWS CDK: Building secure, automated CI/CD pipelines and reusable infrastructure using JavaScript/Python.
2. ECS/Fargate and Docker: Deploying, scaling, monitoring, and troubleshooting containerized workloads.
3. AWS Networking and Security: Strong VPC, IAM, KMS, DNS, routing, and AWS Glue connectivity troubleshooting skills.
4. AWS Data and Frontend Services: Hands-on experience with Glue, Data Firehose, DMS, S3, CloudFront, and WAF.
5. Production Support: Resolving deployment and infrastructure issues while maintaining secure, reliable, and well-documented cloud environments.
