Senior Cloud Software Engineer (Python / AWS) – Energy Trading

Quanteam North America is hiring a Senior Cloud Software Engineer for a major global energy trading house in Houston. You will build the cloud-native platforms that power market data, pricing, analytics and pre-trade decision support for the trading floor.

This is a senior individual-contributor role. It is hands-on engineering first, and you will also shape the architecture and mentor other engineers.

What you'll do

• Design, build, deploy and run secure cloud-native applications, APIs, microservices and event-driven services on AWS
• Write clean, well-tested backend services and automation in Python
• Engineer production-grade pipelines that ingest, validate and expose market data for pricing and pre-trade workflows
• Work directly with traders, quants, product owners, architects, data, cybersecurity and infrastructure teams to turn business needs into resilient solutions
• Choose and apply AWS managed services for serverless, containerized and data-intensive workloads
• Define reusable IaC, automated testing and CI/CD patterns (Terraform, AWS CDK or CloudFormation, Git-based workflows)
• Build in security from the start: least privilege, encryption, secrets management, network controls and vulnerability remediation
• Own observability (logging, metrics, tracing, alerting), lead incident investigations and improve availability and performance
• Optimize AWS cost and resource usage
• Integrate with Azure services where it adds real value
• Lead design, code and architecture reviews, set engineering standards and mentor junior and mid-level engineers

What you bring

• 7+ years of professional software engineering, including delivery and production support of business-critical applications
• Advanced hands-on experience designing and operating production solutions on AWS (compute, storage, networking, IAM, databases, messaging, serverless and containers)
• Strong Python skills: OO design, testing, dependency management, API development and distributed systems
• Docker plus ECS or EKS
• Infrastructure as code with Terraform, AWS CDK or CloudFormation
• A solid grasp of CI/CD, code review, release management, observability, incident response, disaster recovery and a secure SDLC
• Proven technical leadership: you drive architecture discussions, mentor engineers and communicate clearly with technical and business stakeholders in an Agile setting
• A Bachelor's in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience

Nice to have

• Azure integration experience (identity, networking, data or application services)
• Background in trading systems, pre-trade, market data, pricing or quantitative analytics
• C#/.NET or another enterprise backend language
• AWS Glue, Athena or Redshift
• React or Angular
• AWS certification (Azure certification is a plus)
