What they need
About the company
Our client is a specialist commissioning firm serving hyperscale and high-reliability infrastructure. They deliver commissioning, Integrated Systems Testing (IST), QA/QC and operational readiness for data centers and other no-fail environments.
They work to a standardised delivery playbook built on readiness, risk prevention and repeatable execution. Commissioning is involved early, so it shapes the build rather than signing it off at the end.
The role
You'll be the mechanical technical authority for commissioning on large mission-critical data center projects. The focus is cooling, heat rejection and life-safety-related mechanical systems.
This is a hands-on lead role. You'll write the scripts, run the tests on site, and lead the mechanical side of IST under live-load, schedule-critical conditions.
Key responsibilities
- Act as the mechanical technical authority for assigned commissioning scopes.
- Write mechanical commissioning scripts from scratch, including Pre-Functional Checks (PFCs), L2/L3 readiness inspections and Functional Performance Tests (FPTs).
- Plan and execute FPT on site, and support Integrated Systems Testing (IST).
- Lead hands-on chiller and chilled water plant start-up, testing and troubleshooting.
- Validate mechanical sequences of operation, redundancy modes and failure scenarios.
- Coordinate with controls, electrical, OEM and EPC teams during testing and IST.
- Identify, document and resolve mechanical deficiencies and risks.
- Review and approve mechanical commissioning documentation and reports.
- Mentor and develop mechanical commissioning engineers on site.
Essential requirements
- Strong hands-on chiller experience : start-up, testing and troubleshooting on site, not only witnessing or reviewing.
- Proven ability to write commissioning scripts from scratch for PFC, FPT and IST.
- 10+ years in mission-critical or high-reliability mechanical systems.
- A track record leading mechanical commissioning on large data center projects.
- Deep knowledge of mission-critical cooling: chilled water, DX, evaporative and liquid cooling.
- Expertise in CRAH/CRAC units, pumps, valves, heat exchangers and heat rejection equipment.
- Strong understanding of mechanical sequences, controls integration and sensor strategy.
- Confident communication with owners, contractors and operators.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- Willing to travel and work a rotational schedule.
Desirable
- Hyperscale or large colocation data center experience.
- Previous role as a Senior Mechanical Commissioning Engineer or equivalent.
- Certified Commissioning Professional (CCP).
- Professional Engineer (PE) licence.
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety.
Package and benefits
- Base salary of $180,000 – $220,000 , depending on experience.
- All overtime over 40 hours paid at 1.5x. At this level that typically adds around $10,000 a month .
- 7-day per diem worth approx. $5,000 a month.
- 3 on / 1 off rotation for proper time at home.
- Performance-based bonus eligibility.
- Travel expenses covered.
- Full company benefits package.
