Senior Component Quality Engineer

Senior commodity engineer responsible for managing electronic component quality. The role involves extensive supplier management, including handling quality issues, performing qualifications, identifying alternative components, and developing the supplier base. You will interface with customers and suppliers on deep technical quality issues and perform component specification reviews to determine viability of alternate parts to drive cost reductions and alleviate shortage situations.

Key responsibilities

• Manage quality improvement activities through defect monitoring and reporting, corrective action processes, and supplier audits
• Perform component specification reviews to determine viability of alternate parts and components
• Visit suppliers to evaluate their process controls and reliability programs
• Perform supplier assessments and risk analysis, making recommendations regarding supplier selection
• Work with suppliers to improve overall yield of assemblies and quality of materials
• Gather, analyze, sort and distribute data to understand and solve quality issues
• Utilize quality tools and team problem solving methods to drive root cause analysis of problems and implement improvements
• Perform supplier audits and qualifications working closely with commodity management
• Provide quality and reliability performance data to suppliers and internal management team
• Document, maintain and improve implementation of processes

Requirements

• Six to eight years relevant experience
• Bachelor's degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Solid understanding of contract manufacturing processes
• In-depth knowledge of industry and quality standards and SPC methodologies
• Knowledge of design engineering for systems and printed circuit boards
• Excellent customer contact, supplier contact, negotiation and problem resolution skills
• Strong knowledge of statistical process control methods and techniques
• Ability to evaluate, diagnose and troubleshoot problems
• Strong supplier management skills and audit experience
• Experience and knowledge of ISO 9001, TS16949, ISO 13485 compliance standards
