Senior Construction Accountant

A well-established and growing real estate organization is seeking a Senior Construction Accountant to join their team. This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional with a strong background in construction accounting and job costing to work closely with a friendly and collaborative real estate development team. The position offers exposure to complex development projects and construction financing.

This is a hybrid position – 2 days a week in-office.

Responsibilities:

• Take ownership of the accounting for a portfolio of active real estate development projects

• Track construction spending and project costs to ensure expenses are properly recorded, classified and supported

• Maintain accurate financial records for multiple development entities and prepare related journal entries and account reconciliations

• Manage project invoices and coordinate payments throughout the development and construction process

• Work with the development team to track available cash, upcoming funding needs and project expenditures

• Assist with lender draw packages and coordinate the movement of funds for construction-related expenses

• Handle month-end and year-end accounting activities for assigned projects and entities

• Provide schedules, reconciliations and supporting documentation for annual audits and project cost certifications

• Serve as an accounting resource to development teams and work regularly with lenders, contractors, property managers and external auditors

• Provide review and support to Project Accountants and help resolve project accounting issues

• Help improve accounting processes, documentation and internal controls as the organization continues to grow

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field

• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience

- Construction accounting experience required

• Strong knowledge of job costing and project-based accounting

• Understanding of the real estate development and construction process

• Solid general ledger and account reconciliation experience

• Excellent communication and organizational skills

• Experience with MRI or Yardi preferred but not required
