Senior Construction Manager

Flowtec Construction is partnered with an established commercial general contractor in Metro Detroit that is looking to add an experienced Senior Project Manager to its leadership team.

With over 50 years in business and approximately $150M in annual construction volume, the company has developed a strong reputation throughout Southeast Michigan. Their portfolio includes ground-up commercial construction, multifamily, mixed-use, retail, hospitality, and renovation projects.

The company operates primarily through negotiated work and long-standing client relationships rather than relying on competitive low-bid projects. With a strong backlog and consistent repeat business, they are continuing to grow their operations throughout the region.

Position Overview

The Senior Project Manager will report directly to the Vice President of Construction and serve as a member of the senior leadership team, overseeing a team of Project Managers and Assistant Project Managers.

This position will be responsible for overseeing multiple commercial construction projects at various stages, providing leadership and guidance to project teams while maintaining oversight of budgets, schedules, client relationships, and overall project performance.

The ideal candidate will have extensive commercial construction experience, a strong understanding of the Southeast Michigan market, and a proven ability to lead project teams while independently managing complex construction projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee multiple commercial construction projects from preconstruction through closeout.
• Provide leadership, direction, and mentorship to Project Managers and Assistant Project Managers.
• Work closely with the Vice President of Construction to oversee project execution, staffing, and resource allocation.
• Monitor project budgets, schedules, financial performance, and overall profitability.
• Collaborate with Superintendents to ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, and within budget.
• Oversee subcontractor buyout, procurement, contract negotiations, and change order management.
• Maintain relationships with owners, architects, engineers, and subcontractors.
• Review project progress, identify potential issues, and work with project teams to develop solutions.
• Support preconstruction activities and coordinate with estimating teams throughout project development.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of commercial construction project management experience.
• Proven experience overseeing multiple projects and leading Project Managers or Assistant Project Managers.
• Experience with ground-up commercial construction preferred.
• Strong understanding of construction contracts, project financials, scheduling, and subcontractor management.
• Experience managing negotiated commercial construction projects.
• Established knowledge of the Southeast Michigan construction market and local subcontractors.
• Strong client relationship management and leadership skills.
• Proficiency with Procore, Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, or similar software.
• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
• Stable employment history with a demonstrated record of successful project delivery.

Compensation & Benefits

• Base salary of $145,000–$165,000, depending on experience.
• Annual performance-based bonus, circa 15% of salary.
