This is a unique opportunity to join a client that has been with Vertical Scope Group for 15 years and has been delivering to defence and federal government for decades. The client is looking for permanent joiners, that are looking to be trained, receive certifications and build themselves into senior level consultants.

About you

• Deep expertise in OpenStack architecture, deployment, configuration and upgrades.
• Hands-on experience with OpenStack 17 and 18 platform upgrades and modern cloud technologies, including Red Hat OpenStack Services on OpenShift (RHOSO).
• Lead complex cloud architecture design, delivering scalable, reliable and high-performing infrastructure solutions.
• Drive automation initiatives to streamline platform deployment, upgrades and day-2 operations management.
• Act as a trusted technical advisor to clients and stakeholders, translating business and technical requirements into effective cloud solutions while maintaining high standards of technical delivery and professionalism.

About the role

Technical Leadership & Cloud Architecture

• Architecture & Upgrades: Design, implement, and upgrade large-scale OpenStack environments, with specialised experience navigating OpenStack versions 17 and 18.
• RHOSO Integration: Drive modernisation efforts leveraging Red Hat OpenStack Services on OpenShift (RHOSO) to align cloud architecture with modern containerised strategies.
• Automation & Orchestration: Build, refine, and maintain automated pipelines and infrastructure-as-code (IaC) tools (e.g., Ansible, Terraform) to optimise deployment, configuration management, and ongoing support/operations.
• Troubleshooting & Platform Health: Serve as an escalation point for complex technical issues, performing root-cause analysis, performance tuning, and capacity planning.

Consulting & Professional Services

• Client Engagement: Collaborate with enterprise clients, technical teams, and executive stakeholders to understand business drivers and translate them into robust technical architectures.
• Technical Documentation: Produce high-quality architectural blueprints, deployment guides, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and operational handoff documentation.
• Best Practices & Mentorship: Champion cloud infrastructure best practices and mentor junior team members and technical staff.

Required Qualifications & Experience

• Senior-Level OpenStack Expertise: Proven hands-on experience designing, deploying, and maintaining enterprise OpenStack environments, specifically OpenStack 17 and 18.
• Modernisation Knowledge: Demonstrated experience with Red Hat OpenShift Services on OpenStack (RHOSO) and OpenShift/Kubernetes concepts.
• Automation Mastery: Strong proficiency in automation tools such as Ansible, Python, Bash, or Terraform for platform lifecycle management.
• Linux & Networking: Deep understanding of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), SDN/NFV solutions (e.g., OVN, Open vSwitch), storage integrations (Ceph), and high-availability design.

Preferred Certifications

• Red Hat Certified Architect (RHCA) or Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE)
• Red Hat Certified Specialist in OpenStack
• Red Hat Certified Specialist in OpenShift / Containers
