Senior Controller

About the Opportunity

A private family office is seeking an experienced Senior Controller to own accounting across a multi-entity investment platform. The family’s portfolio spans real estate, public equities, private equity, venture capital, private credit, and hedge funds, and the office sits alongside several family-owned operating businesses. This is a high-trust, hands-on seat reporting directly to the CEO within a small, sophisticated team, with varying degrees of financial oversight of those operating businesses. The role offers direct access to decision-makers, meaningful responsibility from day one, and the stability and long-term horizon that come with managing private capital. The employer is a confidential single-family office and will be disclosed to candidates during the interview process.

What You’ll Do

· Own the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close on a set calendar, and deliver entity-level and consolidated financial statements to leadership.

· Keep the general ledger current and correctly classified, and prepare and review journal entries, accruals, and workpapers.

· Process investment reports and financial information received from underlying investments to monitor and review KPIs and investment performance.

· Reconcile all bank, credit card, loan, brokerage, and intercompany accounts monthly, and maintain inter-entity loan schedules.

· Process vendor payments and prepare wires under dual-control procedures, track daily cash, and maintain the data behind the rolling cash-flow forecast.

· Record capital contributions, distributions, debt, and K-1 activity by deal, and track property-level financials, including real estate taxes, insurance, and capital expenditures.

· Prepare year-end tax packages for outside CPAs, maintain the filing calendar (tax returns, K-1s, sales and property taxes), and keep tax-basis schedules current.

· Process payroll for the office and affiliated operating businesses, and issue 1099s.

· Administer the accounting system and related tools, document procedures, and drive workflow improvements and automation.

· Provide accounting oversight of affiliated operating businesses, ranging from review of their financials to hands-on support as needed.

· Supervise bookkeeping staff and outside accounting support, and report accounting status and issues directly to the CEO.

What We’re Looking For

· 5+ years of accounting experience, including controller, assistant controller, or senior accounting experience, ideally at a family office, real estate company, investment firm, or public accounting firm serving those clients.

· CPA strongly preferred.

· Hands-on multi-entity accounting experience: intercompany, consolidations, and partnership/LLC accounting.

· Familiarity with K-1s, partnership capital accounts, and tax-basis tracking.

· Proficiency in QuickBooks Online and advanced Excel.

· Payroll processing experience; exposure to operating-company accounting a plus.

· Highly organized and deadline-driven, with the attention to detail, discretion, and integrity required to manage private family capital.

· Self-directed and accountable, yet collaborative within a small team.

Compensation

$140,000-175,000.

Competitive compensation commensurate with experience. The position is structured for a long-term relationship with the family office.
