What they need
A large financial institution is hiring a senior hands-on data professional to support an enterprise financial crime risk program. This position sits at the intersection of data engineering, analytics, regulatory risk, and business stakeholder management.
The role will focus on building repeatable data processes that support BSA/AML and sanctions-related risk analysis. The successful candidate will personally work with SQL, source-system data, transformation logic, mappings, quality controls, and documentation while partnering with technology and business teams across the organization.
This is not primarily a data science or predictive-modeling position. The emphasis is on data pipelines, SQL, data integrity, technical requirements, and end-to-end ownership.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain data pipelines and repeatable data processes supporting financial-crime risk analysis.
- Write and optimize complex SQL queries across multiple enterprise data sources.
- Translate business and regulatory requirements into technical data requirements, mappings, and query logic.
- Validate the completeness, accuracy, and integrity of data used in risk reporting and assessment processes.
- Partner with technology, data, governance, analytics, and business stakeholders to source and validate information.
- Investigate data discrepancies and coordinate with source-system owners to resolve issues.
- Maintain detailed documentation around data sources, transformation logic, validation procedures, and controls.
- Support regulatory, audit, governance, and management reporting requirements.
Role Requirements
- Strong hands-on experience writing advanced SQL against large and complex datasets.
- Experience building or maintaining data pipelines, transformations, mappings, or comparable data-engineering processes.
- Background working with data across multiple enterprise source systems.
- Understanding of BSA/AML, financial crime, risk and controls, sanctions, or another strongly regulated risk environment.
- Relevant technical or quantitative degree such as Information Systems, Data Analytics, Engineering, Statistics, or a related discipline.
- Strong data-quality and validation mindset.
- Ability to independently gather requirements and drive work across business and technical stakeholders.
- Strong written documentation and communication skills.
- Ability to translate business requirements into practical technical solutions.
Nice to Have
- Direct BSA/AML or sanctions risk-assessment experience.
- Experience within a large financial institution.
- Power BI or comparable visualization/reporting experience.
- Data-governance or lineage experience.
- Consulting experience supporting banking, compliance, risk, or financial-crime programs.
