What they need

Our client is a well-established data centre and IT infrastructure company providing carrier-neutral data centre services, network connectivity, managed services, and other critical technology solutions.

As part of their continued growth, they are seeking an experienced Senior Data Centre Facilities Engineer to take on a key role in the management and operation of mission-critical data centre facilities.

This is a hands-on senior role suited for an experienced Data Centre Facilities / M&E Engineer who is confident in leading a team, managing day-to-day operations, preparing and reviewing reports, and providing technical guidance. The successful candidate will be expected to be both operationally strong and technically hands-on, with the ability to respond effectively to issues within a live data centre environment.

Key Responsibilities

Data Centre Facilities Operations

  • Take ownership of the day-to-day operation and performance of critical data centre M&E systems, including electrical distribution, UPS, generators, switchgear, cooling systems, fire protection and monitoring systems.
  • Monitor facility performance and ensure critical infrastructure operates safely, reliably and within required parameters.
  • Lead the response to equipment alarms, incidents, faults and operational abnormalities.
  • Carry out troubleshooting, investigation and root cause analysis, and implement appropriate corrective and preventive actions.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of site systems, operating procedures, emergency response processes and system redundancies.

Team Supervision & Technical Leadership

  • Supervise and provide day-to-day guidance to Data Centre Facilities Engineers and Technicians.
  • Allocate work, monitor team performance and ensure operational activities are completed according to established procedures and service requirements.
  • Coach and develop junior team members, sharing technical knowledge and best practices.
  • Serve as a technical escalation point for complex facilities and engineering issues.
  • Ensure the team maintains high standards of operational discipline, safety and documentation.

Maintenance & Asset Management

  • Plan, coordinate and oversee preventive and corrective maintenance for critical M&E infrastructure.
  • Review maintenance schedules, work procedures, method statements and risk assessments.
  • Coordinate with contractors and service providers to ensure maintenance activities are completed safely and with minimal impact to data centre operations.
  • Participate in system testing and planned maintenance activities involving UPS, generators, switchgear, chillers/CRAC, fire protection and other critical systems.
  • Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, operational efficiency and maintenance practices.

Reporting, Documentation & Performance Monitoring

  • Prepare and review daily operational reports, incident reports, maintenance records and facility performance reports.
  • Monitor operational KPIs, equipment performance and maintenance activities, highlighting issues and trends to management.
  • Ensure incidents are properly investigated, documented and followed through to closure.
  • Maintain accurate records of facility activities, equipment status, alarms, defects and corrective actions.
  • Support management in reviewing operational performance and identifying areas for improvement.

Projects, Vendors & Stakeholder Management

  • Support data centre expansion, upgrading, fit-out and infrastructure improvement projects.
  • Review technical submissions, drawings, method statements, risk assessments and work plans.
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders, customers, contractors and vendors on operational and engineering requirements.
  • Supervise contractors carrying out works within the data centre and ensure compliance with site requirements.
  • Support customer-related activities such as installations, infrastructure changes, turn-ons and maintenance coordination.

Safety, Compliance & Continuous Improvement

  • Ensure all works and operational activities comply with company procedures, safety requirements and relevant statutory regulations.
  • Participate in audits, compliance programmes and certification requirements.
  • Identify operational risks and recommend improvements to strengthen reliability and resilience.
  • Promote a strong safety and operational culture within the facilities team.

Requirements

  • Diploma or Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Building Services, Facilities Management or a related discipline.
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in data centre facilities, critical facilities, M&E operations or a similar mission-critical environment.
  • Prior experience in supervising, leading or guiding a team is strongly preferred.
  • Strong hands-on knowledge of critical data centre infrastructure, particularly electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Good troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities, with the confidence to take ownership during incidents and equipment failures.
  • Strong reporting, documentation and communication skills, with the ability to present operational issues and recommendations clearly to management.
  • Experience working with contractors, vendors and service providers.
  • Familiarity with preventive/corrective maintenance, incident management, risk assessments and method statements.
  • Candidates with exposure to standards or certifications such as Uptime Institute, ISO or SS 564 will have an added advantage.
  • Able to work independently while providing effective leadership and guidance to the team.
  • Willing to work 24/7 rotating shifts and across both data centre locations.
