Location: Pasadena, CA 91101

Pay Rate: $70-$75/hr on W2

Work Arrangement: Hybrid w/ Onsite 2-3 days a week

About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Data Engineer / Data Architect to lead the modernization and optimization of our enterprise data platform. This role combines data architecture, engineering, governance, security, and technical leadership .

You will evaluate the existing data lake, recommend target-state architecture improvements, build scalable data pipelines, strengthen data governance and quality controls, and help drive adoption of modern Microsoft data technologies.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess and improve enterprise data lake/lakehouse architecture , including Raw, Curated, and Serving layers.
• Design and modernize data solutions using Microsoft Fabric, Azure Synapse, ADLS Gen2/OneLake, Power BI, Power Automate, and Microsoft Purview .
• Develop and maintain scalable ETL/ELT pipelines, data models, integrations, and reporting datasets .
• Establish data governance standards covering quality, metadata, lineage, cataloging, classification, security, and access controls .
• Lead architecture assessments, technical roadmaps, design reviews, and modernization initiatives.
• Ensure data platforms meet requirements for security, privacy, compliance, auditability, and production stability .
• Partner with business, security, infrastructure, and application teams to deliver reliable data solutions.
• Mentor data engineers, BI developers, analysts, and other technical team members.
• Create architecture documentation, standards, runbooks, and technical recommendations.
• Support DevOps practices including Git, CI/CD, deployment automation, and release management .

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering, or related field.
• 7+ years of experience in data engineering, data architecture, BI, or enterprise data platforms.
• Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric, Azure Synapse, ADLS Gen2/OneLake, Power BI, Power Automate, and Microsoft Purview .
• Strong knowledge of data lake/lakehouse architecture, data warehousing, dimensional modeling, semantic models, and data governance .
• Advanced SQL and ETL/ELT experience.
• Experience with data quality, security, RBAC, lineage, metadata, audit controls, and production support.
• Strong architecture, problem-solving, communication, and mentoring skills.

Preferred

• Experience with Snowflake , including architecture, performance optimization, security, workload management, and cost optimization.
• Experience comparing Snowflake, Microsoft Fabric, Azure Synapse, ADLS/OneLake , or other cloud data platforms.
• Azure, Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, Purview, or Snowflake certifications.
