Senior Data Engineer

About The Role

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Senior Data Engineer to help develop and maintain Wrenʼs data lake, transformation processes, and integrations. You will work as part of the Data Engineering team to build robust, scalable data pipelines while ensuring data quality, performance, and reliability. This role requires strong hands-on experience in cloud-based data platforms and a passion for developing efficient and scalable data solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, build, and optimise ETL/ELT pipelines using Python and cloud-native tools.
• Implement data validation frameworks, automated testing, and monitoring using tools like Datadog or CloudWatch.
• Work closely with Business Intelligence, analytics teams, and business users to understand data needs and deliver reliable solutions.
• Maintain and improve the data lakeʼs performance, security, and cost-efficiency in platforms like Databricks or Snowflake.
• Ensure proper monitoring, alerting, and logging are in place to maintain uptime and data availability.
• Maintain clear documentation of data flows, transformations, and best practices. Contribute to knowledge-sharing and mentoring junior engineers.
• Follow industry standards for data governance, security, and CI/CD automation in data pipelines.
• Stay up to date with new tools and techniques in data engineering, contributing ideas to improve processes and system efficiency.

About You

Desired skills and knowledge:

• 4+ years’ experience designing, building, and maintaining production data platforms.
• Strong Python skills for data wrangling, pipeline orchestration, automation, and complex SQL/Python debugging, including AI-augmented development tools.
• Experience with modern data lakes/ETL platforms such as Databricks, Snowflake, or equivalent; strong knowledge of Databricks and evaluating new tools for adoption.
• Understanding of LLMs, RAG, and data engineering’s role in agentic workflows.
• Experience with data modelling, transformation, performance optimisation, quality, and consistency.
• Familiarity with monitoring tools such as Datadog and CloudWatch, plus BI tools such as Tableau or Power BI.
• Strong problem-solving, troubleshooting, attention to detail, and communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Knowledge of data governance, security, and compliance best practices.
• Experience with Agile methodologies, Jira, CI/CD, and infrastructure as code.
• Hands-on experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP, including compute, storage, and serverless services.
