Employment Type: On-Demand Engagement (1099 / C2C)
Location: Remote (United States)
Industry: Technology Consulting / Digital Services
About the Solutions Division
Solutions is Kopius' consulting team, delivering end-to-end projects across Digital Products, Custom Applications and App Modernization, and Data and AI. You work across the projects we take on — different clients, different problems, often more than one at a time, with allocation set per project. You work as a Kopius consultant, with a Kopius delivery lead, directly in front of the client. Onshore US plus nearshore LATAM.
About the Role
Design and build the data platforms behind Solutions engagements — ingestion, transformation, modeling, and delivery on Microsoft Fabric and the wider Azure data stack. You will work across several client data estates at once, from proofs of concept to full production builds, and help set the engineering standard for Data and AI.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up Microsoft Fabric environments: workspace structure, access models, and client Azure alignment
- Build medallion lakehouses and batch and real-time pipelines on Fabric and Azure Data Factory (Eventstreams, KQL)
- Integrate heterogeneous sources — databases, APIs, files, ERP extracts — and modernize legacy ETL, benchmarking against the current state
- Model data for analytics and AI consumption, including Direct Lake and Power BI semantic models with the BI team
- Build in data quality, reconciliation, validation, lineage, and monitoring
- Implement governance and security: Purview, RBAC, row-level security, managed identities, Key Vault
- Implement CI/CD and IaC for data assets in Azure DevOps, and optimize performance against cost
- Document architecture and runbooks, hand over cleanly at go-live, and mentor engineers on reusable patterns
Basic Qualifications
- Steady when several projects move at once, with the organization to keep each one on track
- Clear communication with client engineering teams, directly and in writing
- Engineering discipline: testing, code review, and observability as habit rather than afterthought
- Self-directed, able to be productive from the first week of an engagement
Technical Requirements
- 5+ years in data engineering (lakehouse / medallion, ETL/ELT), ideally delivering for external clients
- Production Microsoft Fabric (OneLake, Lakehouse, Warehouse, Pipelines, Notebooks) and Azure data (ADLS Gen2, ADF, Synapse, Event Hubs)
- Strong SQL, Python, and PySpark
- Dimensional modeling, incremental patterns, CDC and SCDs; PostgreSQL and Cosmos DB
- Git-based workflows, CI/CD, and IaC (Bicep or Terraform) for data projects
- Working understanding of at least one of HIPAA/HITECH, FedRAMP/NIST 800-53, IRS 1075, CJIS, or U.S. state standards
Nice to Have
- Epic data (Clarity / Caboodle, HL7 v2, FHIR)
- Azure Government (GCC / GCC High), or Public Trust or Secret clearance eligibility
- Profisee MDM, or legacy ETL migration (IBM DataStage, PeopleSoft or other ERP sources)
- Azure OpenAI, AI Foundry, or AI Search
- dbt, Databricks, or Iceberg
- Microsoft Fabric or Azure data certifications
