Senior Data Engineer | Up to £80,000 | Manchester or Warrington (2 days PW)

The Role

We’re looking for a Senior Data Engineer to join an established technology team and help develop, maintain and improve its data platform.

This is an opportunity to work on a significant data platform transformation, supporting the migration of an existing data warehouse to AWS while building scalable, reliable data pipelines and improving the way data is processed across the business.

You’ll take a hands-on approach to solving technical challenges, working closely with engineers, analysts and data scientists to deliver robust data solutions. There’s also scope to influence engineering standards, introduce best practices and help shape the future direction of the platform.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Designing, developing and maintaining data pipelines and ETL/ELT processes across AWS.
• Supporting the migration of an existing SQL Server data warehouse to an AWS-based environment using S3 and Redshift.
• Building scalable data processing solutions using technologies such as Python, Spark and Kafka.
• Developing data quality checks, validation processes and monitoring to ensure data remains accurate and reliable.
• Improving the performance, scalability and efficiency of existing data pipelines and warehouse solutions.
• Contributing to data architecture, including modern data warehouse and lakehouse approaches.

What We’re Looking For

• At least 5 years' commercial experience in Data Engineering.
• Strong programming skills in Python or Scala.
• Hands-on experience with AWS data services, ideally including Glue, Lambda, S3 and Redshift.
• Strong SQL skills, including complex queries and query optimisation.
• Experience building and maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines in a production environment.
• Experience with big data processing frameworks such as Apache Spark.

Desirable Experience

• Experience working with high-volume, high-transactional data environments.
• Familiarity with infrastructure as code and CI/CD tools such as Terraform and Jenkins.
• Experience designing modern data lakehouse architectures.
• Exposure to monitoring and observability tools such as Grafana or Datadog.
• Experience supporting analytics, reporting or machine learning workloads.
