Senior Data Engineer

I have partnered with an innovative, global financial services organisation to find a Senior Data Engineer who will play a pivotal role in a massive data platform transformation.

This organisation is aggressively modernising its technology landscape, shifting away from legacy systems to build a highly scalable, cloud-native data ecosystem. You will join a specialised Data Platform team, acting as a technical leader to bridge the gap between their existing data estate and their future-state modern platforms.

This is a rare opportunity to influence high-level platform strategy while remaining deeply hands-on with engineering, stakeholder engagement, and the rollout of advanced analytics and AI/ML capabilities.

The Role

• Drive Transformation: Assess the existing data estate (SQL Server) and determine the strategic path forward—identifying what to retire, consolidate, or migrate to the cloud.
• Hands-on Engineering: Design, build, and optimise robust data solutions and pipelines utilising Snowflake, dbt, and Azure Data Factory (ADF).
• Maintain Operational Excellence: Support and stabilise existing data warehouse platforms to ensure business continuity during the modernisation journey.
• Future-Proofing: Lay the groundwork for advanced analytics and machine learning by building reliable data products, automated lineage, and robust CI/CD pipelines.
• Stakeholder Collaboration: Partner with cross-functional business units, engineering teams, and delivery partners to translate complex requirements into practical business outcomes.

What You Bring

• Strong production experience with traditional SQL Server data warehouse environments.
• Hands-on expertise in modern cloud data platforms, specifically Snowflake (modelling, tuning, optimisation).
• Proficiency in building pipelines using Azure Data Factory (ADF) and data transformation via DBT Cloud .
• Experience with AWS storage solutions (S3, Glue) and strong scripting skills in SQL and Python .
• A strategic mindset with the ability to analyse complex system dependencies and solve complex migration challenges.
• A solid grasp of data governance, security, and compliance best practices in a cloud environment.
• Bonus: Experience in financial services, customer analytics, or exposure to AI/ML workloads and feature stores.
