The opportunity The Senior Data Lead is responsible for reviewing and consolidating the Group’s existing Power BI environment, leading its migration to a shared medallion data architecture, and developing business-aware schemas that provide a consistent foundation for reporting and analysis. Operating within the construction industry context, the role focuses on bringing together disparate company data, standardising business definitions, and maintaining reliable reporting throughout the transition.

Duties Working closely with the Data, Systems and Reporting Manager, the role will establish an Azure SQL data foundation and support the implementation of a governed Generative Business Intelligence (GenBI) layer using Microsoft Fabric semantic models and Data Agents. Additional duties include:

Reporting Review, Consolidation and Migration

• Review existing Power BI reports, dashboards, semantic models, dataflows, source connections, refresh arrangements, and access controls across Group companies.

Data Architecture and Business-Aware Schemas

• Lead the design and implementation of Bronze, Silver, and Gold data layers within the Azure SQL data foundation.
• Build and oversee ingestion and transformation pipelines, including incremental processing, exception handling, and recovery.

Microsoft Fabric and GenBI Enablement

• Work with the Data, Systems and Reporting Manager and implementation partners to deliver the agreed GenBI architecture.
• Develop governed departmental and corporate Fabric semantic models connected to curated Azure SQL data.

Technical Delivery and Governance

• Implement appropriate access controls, deployment practices, monitoring, and operational documentation.

About You An experienced Data Lead with strong capabilities in data engineering, business data modelling, and Power BI consolidation. The role requires hands-on expertise in SQL, Azure data services, and Microsoft Fabric, together with the ability to translate business processes and reporting requirements into consistent, well-defined data structures. You will be comfortable in leading technical delivery, guide data and reporting developers, and collaborate effectively with business stakeholders and implementation partners. Your experience also entails:

• Strong practical knowledge of Power BI semantic models, DAX, Power Query, dataflows, refresh dependencies, and row-level security.
• Strong skills in data profiling, cleansing, reconciliation, and automated quality validation.
• Experience with Fabric Data Agents, Microsoft Foundry, or governed natural-language analytics is desirable.
• Familiarity with SaaS APIs, C#/.NET middleware, Python, and Microsoft Entra ID is desirable.
