Senior Data Migration Engineer (Azure SQL to Google BigQuery)

At Tekton Labs , we are looking for a Senior Data Migration Engineer to lead the transition and modernization of the data infrastructure for one of our international clients in the healthcare sector. In this role, you will be responsible for refactoring, migrating, and optimizing stored procedures from Azure SQL to Google BigQuery. You will ensure optimal performance in distributed analytical architectures, complete data integrity, and strict compliance with privacy regulations (HIPAA).

Responsibilities:

• Refactor and translate complex T-SQL stored procedures, views, and functions into GoogleSQL within BigQuery.
• Redesign procedural logic and T-SQL loops into advanced set-based operations optimized for BigQuery.
• Optimize query performance by leveraging column-oriented architectures, table partitioning, and clustering.
• Design and implement automated data validation scripts to ensure 100% data parity and integrity between Azure SQL and BigQuery.
• Integrate data governance best practices for the secure handling of protected health information (PHI / HIPAA).
• Document mapping logic, data transformations, and architectural decisions comprehensively throughout the migration process.
• Collaborate closely with data engineering teams to align query execution with pipeline orchestration tools.

Must have:

• 3+ years of advanced experience working with Azure SQL and T-SQL (stored procedures, CTEs, dynamic SQL, and performance tuning).
• 3+ years of hands-on experience with Google BigQuery (GoogleSQL, partitioned/clustered tables, and handling nested/repeated fields).
• Demonstrated previous experience in at least one full end-to-end RDBMS to Cloud Data Warehouse migration project (from transactional SQL to columnar storage).
• 2+ years of experience automating Data Parity and Data Validation testing between source and target systems.
• 2+ years of experience using version control with Git and CI/CD workflows.
• Advanced English level (C1) for continuous technical interaction.

Nice to have:

• Previous experience working on Healthcare / MedTech projects handling PHI data under HIPAA compliance.
• Familiarity with Google Cloud Cortex Framework or BigQuery Migration Service (BQMS) batch translator.
• Knowledge of data orchestration tools such as Apache Airflow, Google Cloud Composer, or Azure Data Factory.
• Proficiency in scripting languages like Python or Bash for migration and automation tasks.
