Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced Senior Data Modeler / Ontology Specialist with 8+ years of experience and strong expertise in US Property & Casualty (P&C) Insurance, particularly in Claims and/or Underwriting.

The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience in Conceptual, Logical, and Physical Data Modeling, along with experience in Ontology, Semantic Modeling, Taxonomy, Knowledge Graphs, and Business Glossaries.

This is primarily a Data Modeling + Ontology/Semantic Modeling role and is not a Data Engineering-focused position.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and maintain Conceptual, Logical, and Physical Data Models.
• Develop enterprise-level data models, semantic models, ontologies, and taxonomies.
• Define business entities, attributes, relationships, hierarchies, and standardized terminology.
• Translate complex insurance business requirements into reusable data and semantic models.
• Model key US P&C insurance entities including:
• Policy
• Claim
• Coverage
• Insured / Customer
• Risk
• Exposure
• Premium
• Loss
• Underwriting
• Develop models supporting Claims Management and Underwriting processes.
• Create semantic mappings between business concepts and enterprise data structures.
• Support metadata management, data governance, data lineage, and business glossary initiatives.
• Identify and resolve inconsistencies in data definitions, terminology, and relationships.
• Establish standardized definitions and relationships across enterprise insurance data.
• Support ontology and semantic models for enterprise data and analytics platforms.
• Document modeling standards, business definitions, design principles, and reusable semantic assets.
• Work closely with Business SMEs, Data Architects, Product Owners, and Technology teams.
• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior data modelers.

Mandatory SkillsData Modeling

• 8+ years of overall IT experience.
• Strong hands-on experience in Data Modeling.
• Conceptual, Logical, and Physical Data Modeling.
• Enterprise Data Modeling and ER Modeling.
• Strong SQL skills.
• Experience with Erwin or equivalent data modeling tools.
• Data dictionaries and business definitions.
• Metadata Management, Data Governance, and Data Lineage.

Ontology & Semantic Modeling

• Experience with Ontology Modeling / Semantic Modeling.
• Taxonomy Management and Business Glossary.
• Knowledge Graph concepts.
• Semantic relationships and entity modeling.
• Exposure to RDF/RDFS, OWL, SKOS, SPARQL, SHACL or similar semantic technologies.
• Understanding of Linked Data / Semantic Web concepts.

Hands-on experience with every semantic technology is not mandatory, but meaningful experience in Ontology, Semantic Modeling, Taxonomy, or Knowledge Graphs is required.Mandatory Domain Experience – US P&C Insurance

• 8+ years of overall IT experience.
• Strong experience as a Senior Data Modeler, Data Modeller, Ontology Specialist, or Semantic Modeler.
• Strong US P&C Insurance domain expertise.
• Hands-on experience with Claims and/or Underwriting.
• Strong understanding of Policy, Claim, Coverage, Risk, Premium, Loss, and Exposure.
• Experience creating Conceptual, Logical, and Physical Data Models.
• Experience with Ontology, Taxonomy, Semantic Modeling, or Knowledge Graph concepts.
• Strong SQL and data modeling tool experience.
• Good stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Ability to independently work with business SMEs and translate requirements into enterprise data and semantic models.

Education
