About the Client
Our client is a leading regional life insurance group with a large technology and data function in Kuala Lumpur. The Data Modelling team is leading data warehouse modernisation and building scalable data structures for analytics, reporting, and business intelligence.

Role Details
Senior Data Modeller | Kuala Lumpur, fully onsite | 1-year contract, extendable | Target start: October 2026

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and review of enterprise data models across conceptual, logical, and physical layers.
• Define and maintain enterprise data modelling standards and best practices.
• Build scalable data structures that support reporting, analytics, and self-service data consumption.
• Review existing data warehouse and data mart designs, and assess vendor-delivered data models.
• Identify modelling gaps, redundancies, and technical debt, and recommend improvements.
• Support data warehouse modernisation and contribute to target-state data architecture.
• Optimise models for modern analytics platforms across data lake, lakehouse, and warehouse environments.
• Partner with BI teams on semantic layer design and enterprise KPI standardisation.
• Support data governance through business definitions, data lineage, metadata, and data quality practices.
• Review and tune storage structures, partitioning, data loading, and refresh performance.
• Facilitate modelling workshops and design reviews, and present recommendations to stakeholders.
• Deliver data modelling standards, current-state assessments, gap analyses, data dictionaries, and future-state data models.

Must-Haves

• 8+ years of experience in data warehousing, analytics, and data modelling.
• Proven experience designing enterprise-scale data models.
• Strong dimensional modelling skills: star and snowflake schemas, fact and dimension design, and slowly changing dimensions.
• Hands-on conceptual, logical, and physical data modelling.
• Enterprise data warehouse and data mart design experience.
• Experience with Microsoft Fabric, Databricks, Snowflake, or an equivalent modern analytics platform.
• Understanding of data lake and lakehouse concepts.
• Experience supporting Power BI, Tableau, Qlik, or Looker environments.
• Working knowledge of data lineage, metadata management, data quality frameworks, and master data management concepts.
• Experience reviewing and improving existing data warehouse designs.
• Experience working with cross-functional business and technology teams.
• Able to work onsite in Kuala Lumpur and legally authorised to work in Malaysia.

Nice-to-Haves

• Experience in financial services, banking, insurance, or other large enterprise environments.
• Experience with the Azure data ecosystem: Data Lake, Synapse Analytics, Data Factory, Fabric, Azure SQL, Databricks.
• Exposure to Microsoft Purview or Informatica.
• Knowledge of modern data architecture and analytics design patterns.
• Experience working with external vendors and system integrators.
