Senior Data Platform Engineer (Operations)

Dublin - Permanent – Hybrid

Background

The Panel is partnering with a client to recruit a Senior Data Platform Engineer for its Dublin office. The role reports to the Head of Data & Analytics, and is responsible for the day-to-day operation, reliability and quality of the company's Microsoft data platform.

The current platform is Azure SQL Managed Instance and Power BI, with a planned move to Microsoft Fabric and Purview delivered with a third-party partner. So you will work with the delivery partner on the Fabric and Purview transition, and operate the new platform once live.

This is a hands-on operational role rather than a strategy or architecture position.

Responsibilities

1. Own the day-to-day reliability, availability, performance and quality of the data platform.
2. Run monitoring, alerting and automation across data and reporting pipelines, and meet agreed operational SLAs.
3. Lead incident management and root-cause analysis, and put permanent fixes in place.
4. Build, operate and optimise data pipelines, ETL/ELT processes, data models and data marts.
5. Reduce technical debt and migrate legacy and Excel-based data sources onto governed platform standards.
6. Govern third-party and managed-service support to SLA.
7. Embed data quality, security and governance controls, including master data management.

Experience

1. 5+ years in data engineering or data platform operations, with recent hands-on ownership of a production platform ideally within financial services.
2. Strong SQL Server or Azure SQL, ETL/ELT, data warehousing, data modelling and Power BI – with Microsoft Fabric an advantage.
3. Experience of monitoring, alerting, incident management and data-quality controls.
4. Experience implementing data governance and operational controls.
5. Experience working with and managing third-party and managed-service providers.
6. Working knowledge of DevOps or DataOps practices and automation.
