Description

We have an opportunity for an experienced Senior Database Administrator to join our team in Glasgow.

Key Responsibilities

The role would be to join our Infrastructure and Database Services team. The successful candidate will provide specialist database expertise across Oracle environments whilst supporting the organisation’s evolving multi-database strategy, including PostgreSQL and MariaDB platforms.

This role is critical in ensuring the stability, performance, security, and ongoing development of business-critical database services supporting both operational and customer-facing systems. The position will also contribute towards wider strategic initiatives, including platform modernisation, ServiceNow integrations, and the expansion of open-source database capabilities across the business.

Key Requirements

• Extensive hands-on Oracle Database Administration experience within enterprise environments

• Strong knowledge of Oracle backup and recovery strategies including RMAN

• Experience managing Oracle performance tuning and optimisation

• Knowledge of Oracle high availability solutions and disaster recovery

• Experience supporting Linux-based database environments

• Strong understanding of database security, patching, and compliance practices

• Experience with PostgreSQL administration and support

• Ability to troubleshoot complex database and infrastructure issues

• Experience working within ITIL-aligned operational environments

• Experience administering MariaDB environments

• Exposure to ServiceNow-related database integrations or migrations

• Knowledge of automation and scripting technologies such as Bash, Python, or PowerShell

• Experience with cloud-hosted database services

• Oracle, PostgreSQL, or related database certifications

• Experience supporting critical utility, energy, or large-scale enterprise environments
