The opportunity
Reporting directly to the IT Infrastructure Manager, the Senior Database Administrator (Sr. DBA) plays a critical, senior-level role in owning, architecting, and optimizing the continuous availability, performance, and security of Gildan’s global database ecosystem. In this role, you will serve as the technical authority across a complex multi-platform environment spanning Oracle, SQL Server, and cutting-edge cloud solutions.
As part of a business that operates around the clock, this position requires commitment to a rotational on-call schedule including scheduled evenings and weekends to ensure seamless operational coverage, support international sites, and execute critical updates outside of standard business hours.
The role
- Database Administration & Lifecycle Leadership: Architect, configure, and lead the lifecycle strategy (upgrades, migrations, and decommissioning) for global enterprise Oracle, SQL Server, and Cloud environments (Azure/Snowflake) while establishing and enforcing organizational deployment standards.
- Advanced Performance Engineering: Serve as the tier-3 escalation authority to diagnose and resolve complex, systemic database system bottlenecks through advanced index, memory, CPU, and space analysis.
- Architectural Advisor & Development Collaboration: Consult directly with BI and development teams as a data architecture expert to guide optimal database design, review complex SQL scripts, and optimize mission-critical stored procedures.
- Change Governance: Act as a key stakeholder in the change management process, ensuring all high-risk environment modifications are rigorously validated to guarantee zero downtime or impact on integrated global systems and clients.
- Enterprise Security & Compliance Ownership: Govern and enforce robust physical and network database security policies, oversee identity management, and take full accountability for SOX security compliance documentation and audit readiness.
- Business Continuity Strategy: Own, test, and continuously optimize the comprehensive enterprise Disaster Recovery (DR) Plan to guarantee maximum business resilience, minimizing RTO and RPO metrics.
- Documentation & Asset Governance: Oversee the integrity of accurate database architecture documentation, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and long-term software license/asset inventories.
- Senior Service Delivery : Provide high-tier, consultative technical support to internal business units, ensuring prompt resolution of critical database issues and strategic enhancement requests.
- Innovation & Strategic Research : Drive technology modernization by conducting research and solution comparisons to provide data-driven, architectural recommendations for new technology acquisitions and cloud infrastructure enhancements.
- Operational Communication Leadership: Oversighting and ensuring effective, proactive communication of critical planned and unplanned system changes to global users and executive stakeholders.

Attributes
- Database Mastery: Subject matter expertise and hands-on mastery of both Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server administration, high-availability architecture, and advanced performance tuning.
- Cloud Solutions: Proven experience migrating workloads to or managing enterprise Cloud DB platforms, with direct hands-on experience in Azure and/or Snowflake solutions being highly advantageous.
- Communication Skills: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate technical changes to both technical teams and business stakeholders.
- Compliance & Security: Prior experience working within a regulated environment (such as SOX compliance) and managing strict database security protocols.
