Senior Database Engineer | Oracle to PostgreSQL Migration | Cloud

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced and proactive Database Engineer to join our Development Center in Bucharest and work on an exciting international project for one of our world-famous clients.

You will play a key role in the migration and optimization of the client's database environment, supporting the transition from on-premises Oracle databases to a cloud-based PostgreSQL infrastructure.

Responsibilities

Cloud Migration & Database Engineering

• Contribute to the migration of the client's database environment from Oracle to Cloud SQL for PostgreSQL.
• Develop and implement database migration strategies while ensuring data integrity, performance and minimal downtime.
• Design, develop and optimize database schemas and components.
• Develop and maintain packages, stored procedures, functions and triggers.
• Analyze and optimize database performance, reliability and scalability.
• Support production environments and investigate database-related incidents.
• Identify potential risks and implement remediation and improvement actions.

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

• Collaborate closely with DevOps, application development and business teams.
• Analyze complex problems and evaluate multiple technical solutions.
• Design scalable, secure and reusable solutions using industry best practices and design patterns.
• Conduct peer reviews to ensure high-quality, extensible and maintainable solutions.
• Improve engineering standards, tools and working practices.
• Drive automation and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Contribute to stable, secure and reliable production environments.
• Identify and manage technical risks related to database architecture and solutions.

Mandatory Skills

• Strong hands-on experience with PostgreSQL .
• Experience with Oracle SQL and PL/SQL .
• Strong understanding of relational databases and database architecture.
• Experience in database design, data modelling and schema optimization.
• Ability to develop database components, including stored procedures, functions and triggers.
• Experience with Python and/or Shell scripting.
• Strong data analysis and problem-solving skills.
• Interest and willingness to learn Google Cloud technologies.
• Understanding of security, risk and control principles.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving mindset.
• Collaborative team player with excellent communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and international environment.

Nice to Have

• Experience working on banking or financial services projects.
• Experience working in an Agile development environment.
• Previous exposure to cloud technologies, particularly Google Cloud Platform.

Work Model & Location

• Hybrid: 2–4 days per month in the office, depending on project needs.
• Location: Bucharest, Romania.

Languages

• English: Upper-Intermediate (B2) or higher.
