What they need
What you'll be doing:
- DESIGN LEADERSHIP AND TECHNICAL OWNERSHIP
- Lead the engineering and design scope for assigned solar PV and BESS projects from tender/bid and feasibility stage through concept design, detailed design, construction support and project handover.
- Establish the design basis, engineering approach, key technical assumptions and design priorities in line with project requirements, applicable standards, budget and schedule.
- Review and approve design calculations, drawings, specifications, equipment selections and technical submissions prepared by team members before issue to internal or external stakeholders.
- TEAM LEADERSHIP AND DEVELOPMENT
- Plan and allocate design tasks to engineers/designers based on workload, competency and project priorities, and monitor progress against agreed deliverables.
- Provide technical direction, coaching and mentoring to junior engineers/designers; support capability development and promote consistent engineering practices within the team.
- Lead internal design reviews and coordinate resolution of technical issues, design conflicts and interface matters across disciplines.
- SOLAR PV AND BESS SYSTEM DESIGN
- Develop and/or review solar PV and BESS designs including layout, DC/AC sizing, energy simulation, electrical architecture, cable sizing, protection, earthing, equipment selection and space optimization.
- Conduct or review site surveys and design inputs covering site conditions, topography, shading, access, constructability and constraints affecting system performance and installation.
- Ensure designs achieve technical performance, safety, reliability, constructability and compliance requirements while considering lifecycle cost and project objectives.
- TENDER AND PROPOSAL ENGINEERING
- Review tender/RFP documents, employer requirements, technical specifications and scope of work to identify design requirements, compliance obligations, technical risks and key assumptions.
- Develop and/or review preliminary solar PV and BESS designs for tender purposes, including capacity sizing, DC/AC configuration, energy simulation, equipment selection, electrical architecture, SLD/layouts and key engineering calculations.
- Prepare and/or review technical proposal documents, tender drawings, BOQ/material quantities, equipment datasheets, technical compliance/deviation schedules, clarifications and responses to tender queries.
- Coordinate with tender/commercial, procurement, suppliers and project teams to obtain technical inputs and quotations, evaluate alternatives, and optimize the design for technical compliance, constructability and competitive project cost.
- PROJECT AND STAKEHOLDER COORDINATION
- Act as the design focal point for assigned projects and coordinate closely with project managers, clients, consultants, suppliers, procurement and construction teams on technical matters.
- Manage engineering deliverable schedules, design interfaces, technical risks, comments and action items to support overall project milestones.
- Support authority/utility submissions, technical meetings and clarification processes, and ensure comments are addressed and incorporated into the design.
- VALUE ENGINEERING AND COST OPTIMIZATION
- Evaluate design alternatives and provide value-engineering recommendations to optimize system performance, constructability and project returns without compromising safety or compliance.
- Collaborate with procurement and suppliers on technical evaluations, material selection, substitutions and cost-effective engineering solutions.
- DOCUMENTATION, QUALITY AND CHANGE CONTROL
- Ensure technical drawings, calculations, reports, specifications, design records and revisions are complete, accurate, traceable and issued in accordance with project requirements.
- Maintain design quality through checking, peer review, document control and change management, and capture lessons learned for future projects.
- CONSTRUCTION SUPPORT AND AD-HOC ASSIGNMENTS
- Provide engineering support during construction, testing and commissioning, including responses to RFis, site technical issues, design changes and as-built requirements.
- Perform other technical or project-related assignments as required by the HOD/management.
Who we're looking for:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- Minimum 1-3 years of relevant experience in solar PV and/or BESS design and engineering, including technical tender/proposal preparation and ownership of engineering deliverables for projects.
- Strong technical knowledge of solar PV and BESS systems covering tender/feasibility, concept design, detailed design, equipment selection, construction support, testing and commissioning interfaces.
- Experience in handling technical tender/RFP requirements, including review of specifications and employer requirements, preliminary design, energy simulation, equipment sizing/selection, tender drawings, BOQ/material quantities, technical compliance, clarifications, deviations and technical proposal preparation.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, guide and mentor engineers/designers, including work allocation, design review, technical problem-solving and quality control of team deliverables.
- Ability to lead the engineering scope of assigned projects from tender stage through project execution by managing design schedules, priorities, technical risks, interfaces, submissions and deliverables to meet bid and project milestones.
- Experience coordinating with clients, project managers, procurement, construction teams, consultants, suppliers, utilities and relevant authorities to resolve technical and project issues.
- Proficiency in CAD software and relevant solar design/simulation tools such as ZWCAD/starCAD, SketchUp and PVSyst; familiarity with project planning tools is an advantage.
- Good knowledge of applicable Malaysian regulations, utility requirements and relevant IEC/MS standards for solar PV, BESS and electrical installations.
- Strong leadership, communication, presentation, analytical and decision-making skills, with the ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
