What they need

Company Overview

Richmond Homes is a residential property developer delivering high-quality homes across the North of England. From site acquisition through to completion, we manage the full development process in-house, backed by our own construction team — giving us real control over quality, programme, and standards on every scheme.

We're a close-knit, ambitious business with ongoing sites across Greater Manchester, Lancashire, Cheshire, and Cumbria, and a growing pipeline behind them. We care as much about how we build as what we build: strong relationships with our people, our subcontractors, and our communities are at the heart of how we operate.

We're proud of our culture — down-to-earth, hardworking, and genuinely supportive — and we're looking for people who want to grow with us as we scale.

About the Role

As a Senior Design Manager you will play a critical role in the successful delivery of complex developments from pre-construction through to completion.

You will oversee the design management process, ensuring technical compliance, programme alignment, and coordination across all consultants and stakeholders. Working closely with site and commercial teams, you will ensure that design solutions are practical, buildable, and cost-effective.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design Coordination: Lead and manage all design-related activities, ensuring compliance with client specifications and regulatory requirements.
  • Technical Oversight: Provide senior technical guidance to ensure innovative, practical, and buildable design solutions.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Coordinate with architects, engineers, subcontractors, and external consultants to ensure seamless delivery.
  • Programme Management: Ensure all design deliverables meet agreed milestones and support overall construction programme objectives.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Manage design documentation and provide clear reporting to senior leadership.
  • Value Engineering: Identify and implement value engineering opportunities without compromising quality or compliance.
  • Team Leadership: Mentor and support design team members, fostering collaboration and professional development.

What You’ll Need

  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years’ experience in design management within residential construction.
  • Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of UK Building Regulations and residential design processes.
  • Leadership Skills: Proven ability to manage consultants and coordinate multidisciplinary teams.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to proactively manage design risks and resolve technical challenges.
  • Software Proficiency: Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, and standard industry software platforms.

Why Join Us?

  • Annual Leave – Enjoy 25 days of annual leave, plus bank holidays.
  • Company Pension – Benefit from our company pension scheme.
  • Professional Growth – Ongoing personal and professional development opportunities.
  • Supportive Environment – Work within a collaborative and ambitious team.
  • Team Events & Days Out – Participate in regular team events and activities.

If you are an experienced Senior Design Manager looking to join a dynamic and growing team, we would love to hear from you.
