This is intended to be an office-based role within our Altrincham/Manchester team.

The Opportunity

We are exploring the addition of a Senior Developer to join Somo and help us build the next generation of digital products, integrations and automation across our business.

This would be a broad, hands-on role for an experienced developer who is comfortable working across backend development, systems architecture, APIs, artificial intelligence and front-end applications.

Rather than joining a large existing development team, you would work closely with senior stakeholders across the business to take ideas from concept through to working products.

The exact scope of the position will continue to evolve as our development roadmap grows, making this an opportunity for the right person to have a significant influence over the technology and products we build next.

Being part of the business and working closely with the people who will actually use the systems you build is important to us. For that reason, we are specifically looking for someone who wants to work collaboratively with the wider team rather than in a fully remote development environment.

What you'll be working on

One of your primary initial projects will be leading the architecture and build of a new AI-driven automation and decisioning platform.

You will design systems that take unstructured incoming data, automatically parse and structure key information, and apply intelligent business logic to streamline evaluation, verification, and data routing.

Your work will span:

• AI & Automation Initiatives: Building greenfield tools that leverage modern AI/LLM capability for automated data extraction, document processing, and intelligent workflow management.
• API Architecture & System Integration: Designing backend services to cleanly connect internal databases, CRM platforms, web applications, and third-party APIs.
• Process Optimisation: Eliminating manual touchpoints across our operational journeys by designing fast, automated data pipelines.
• System Modernisation: Enhancing how our existing platforms communicate with each other to ensure scalable, real-time data movement across the business.

What we're looking for

This role would suit someone who enjoys having ownership rather than working on a very small component of a much larger development project.

You'll need to be comfortable working directly with non-technical stakeholders, translating business ideas into technical solutions and challenging ideas where there is a better way of achieving the desired outcome.

We are looking for someone with strong experience across a combination of:

• Python, particularly for backend development, automation and AI-related applications.
• HTML, JavaScript, mutli-page web-based applications/forms.
• Artificial intelligence and large language model integrations.
• API development and third-party API integrations.
• Systems architecture.
• CRM integrations and workflow automation.
• Building applications that communicate across multiple systems and data sources.
• Designing scalable and reliable backend services.
• Taking technical projects from initial concept through to delivery.
• Good maths skills

You don't need previous experience within bridging finance, lending or financial brokerage. We can teach you about the industry.

What is more important is that you can understand a business problem, design the technical architecture behind a solution and then build it.
