JOB DESCRIPTION: SENIOR DEVOPS & SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR

Location: Abuja, Nigeria (Remote/Hybrid)

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior DevOps & Systems Administrator to design, implement, secure, and maintain our cloud infrastructure and IT systems. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience managing multi-cloud environments, automating deployment processes, strengthening infrastructure security, and ensuring high availability, scalability, and reliability across critical systems.

The successful candidate will play a key role in optimizing our cloud operations, implementing Infrastructure as Code (IaC), maintaining secure CI/CD pipelines, and protecting sensitive financial data in line with industry best practices and applicable compliance requirements.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Cloud Infrastructure Management

• Architect, deploy, and manage highly available, scalable, and resilient cloud infrastructure across AWS, Microsoft Azure, and DigitalOcean.
• Design and maintain cloud environments to support business-critical applications and services.
• Optimize cloud resource utilization, performance, and operational costs.
• Manage Linux and Windows servers, virtual machines, storage systems, and networking configurations.
• Implement infrastructure monitoring, alerting, capacity planning, and performance optimization strategies.

2. DevOps Automation and CI/CD

• Design, implement, and maintain automated CI/CD pipelines using GitHub and other relevant DevOps tools.
• Develop and manage Infrastructure as Code using tools such as Terraform, Ansible, or equivalent technologies.
• Automate server provisioning, configuration management, application deployment, and routine operational tasks.
• Establish reliable release management, rollback, and deployment strategies.
• Promote DevOps best practices, version control, collaboration, and continuous improvement across engineering teams.

3. Systems Security and Compliance

• Lead infrastructure security initiatives, including server hardening, vulnerability management, patching, and security audits.
• Implement robust identity and access management (IAM), role-based access controls, multi-factor authentication, and least-privilege access policies.
• Secure cloud resources, network configurations, databases, APIs, and production environments.
• Manage SSL/TLS certificates, encryption at rest and in transit, secrets management, and secure configuration practices.
• Support compliance with applicable financial services regulations, data protection requirements, and recognized security standards.
• Monitor security events, investigate potential threats, and implement preventive and corrective measures.

4. Database Administration and Management

• Deploy, configure, administer, and optimize databases within cloud environments.
• Manage database performance, availability, access controls, backup schedules, replication, and secure scaling.
• Support database migrations, integration, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
• Implement database backup and restoration procedures and verify data integrity.
• Collaborate with development teams to improve database reliability, security, and performance.

5. Monitoring, Reliability, and Troubleshooting

• Implement and maintain monitoring, logging, and observability solutions for infrastructure and applications.
• Proactively identify and resolve system failures, performance bottlenecks, and infrastructure vulnerabilities.
• Establish service availability targets and improve system reliability through automation and operational best practices.
• Lead incident response, root-cause analysis, and post-incident reviews.
• Maintain accurate technical documentation, infrastructure diagrams, and operational runbooks.

6. Backup, Disaster Recovery, and Business Continuity

• Develop, implement, and maintain disaster recovery and business continuity plans.
• Establish appropriate Recovery Time Objectives (RTO) and Recovery Point Objectives (RPO) in collaboration with stakeholders.
• Implement secure backup, replication, and restoration strategies across cloud environments.
• Conduct periodic disaster recovery drills and validate system recovery procedures.
• Ensure critical systems and data can be restored quickly following service disruptions or security incidents.

7. Technical Leadership and Collaboration

• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to DevOps, infrastructure, and engineering team members.
• Collaborate with software developers, security teams, and business stakeholders to deliver reliable infrastructure solutions.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend improvements to infrastructure architecture and operational processes.
• Maintain clear documentation of system configurations, security controls, deployment procedures, and infrastructure changes.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• At least 6 years of hands-on experience in DevOps, Systems Administration, Cloud Engineering, or a related technical role.
• Demonstrable experience managing multi-cloud environments across AWS, Microsoft Azure, and DigitalOcean.
• Strong knowledge of Linux and Windows server administration, networking, virtualization, and cloud architecture.
• Proven experience designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using GitHub and related automation tools.
• Practical experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform, Ansible, or equivalent technologies.
• Strong understanding of network security, server hardening, vulnerability management, IAM, and access control.
• Experience administering relational and/or NoSQL databases, including backup, recovery, performance tuning, and scaling.
• Familiarity with monitoring, logging, alerting, and observability tools.
• Experience implementing high-availability architectures, backup solutions, disaster recovery plans, and business continuity processes.
• Proficiency in scripting and automation using Bash, Python, PowerShell, or similar languages.
• Understanding of encryption, secrets management, secure networking, and data protection principles.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and collaborate effectively in a remote or hybrid environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Relevant cloud certifications, such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate, or equivalent certifications.
• Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies, including Docker and Kubernetes.
• Familiarity with DevSecOps practices and automated security scanning.
• Experience supporting financial technology, fintech, banking, payment systems, or other environments handling sensitive financial data.
• Knowledge of security frameworks and standards such as ISO 27001, PCI DSS, or SOC 2, where applicable.
• Experience with centralized logging, SIEM solutions, and incident management processes.
• Familiarity with database technologies such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server, MongoDB, or equivalent platforms.
