Senior DevOps Engineer — Retail Technology | Manhattan, New York

A retail marketing technology company in Manhattan is hiring a Senior DevOps Engineer to own its hybrid infrastructure, spanning both cloud and a large IoT estate.

The company runs a loyalty and marketing platform built on point-of-sale data, with patented technology that captures shopper identity and item-level data in real time from in-store and online purchases. The platform serves around 12 million active customers.

What makes this one different

There are two distinct pieces of infrastructure to own: the largest IoT hardware network in the independent grocery space, deployed across stores nationwide, and a substantial AWS backbone. You'd spend the first few months on the IoT side before moving across to the cloud estate. Few DevOps roles offer both.

What you'll do

• Own, design, build and maintain infrastructure across cloud-based and on-premise IoT environments, ensuring reliability, security and scalability
• Develop tooling to improve the deployment, management and monitoring of customer premise equipment, IoT devices and backend systems
• Drive system architecture and modernisation projects from design through to production operations
• Enhance observability across infrastructure and devices, using both custom tooling and off-the-shelf offerings
• Implement secure connectivity for resilient device-to-cloud communication
• Mentor teammates and set the bar on infrastructure engineering practice

What you'll need

• 5+ years in infrastructure engineering, SRE or DevOps, with a strong Linux sysadmin foundation
• Strong Linux and networking knowledge: Docker, firewalls, load balancers, VPNs
• Solid background in monitoring, alerting and troubleshooting large-scale distributed systems
• Python for building infrastructure tooling
• Hands-on expertise across a range of AWS services
• Proven ability to manage and secure hybrid cloud and on-premise infrastructure
• Infrastructure as Code: Terraform, Ansible, CDK or similar
• BSc in Computer Science or equivalent

Nice to have

• Managing servers or IoT devices at scale
• AWS IoT offerings, particularly Greengrass v2
• Secure infrastructure design practice

Agentic development is standard here, so you'd be governing agents responsibly in production rather than arguing about whether to adopt them. High autonomy: they want someone who prioritises risk, puts a short menu of options in front of leadership, then runs with the decision.

Full-time from the NYC office. Applicants must be authorised to work in the US; this role isn't eligible for visa sponsorship.
