What they need
Sr. DevOps Engineer
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Own the function. Shape the roadmap. Help build what comes next.
Savance is looking for a hands-on Senior DevOps Engineer to take end-to-end ownership of our Azure infrastructure, deployment processes, automation, and operational reliability. You will help decide what needs to improve, establish the plan, and carry it through—from identifying a risk to implementing and documenting a lasting solution.
Deep, hands-on experience owning production Microsoft Azure environments is required. Our Windows-based software and hybrid environments need someone who understands Azure administration, Windows Server, IIS, SQL Server, and the practical realities of keeping customer-facing systems running reliably.
You will partner directly with leadership, development, support, and implementation to turn shared DevOps responsibilities into a clear, consistent function. You will have room to recommend tools, challenge existing processes thoughtfully, and connect technical decisions to customer needs and company goals
WHY THIS ROLE AT SAVANCE
- Meaningful ownership and visible impact. Your work will directly influence how we deploy software, protect customer environments, support our team, and prepare for growth.
- A close-knit team where relationships matter. We value people who share knowledge, communicate openly, help across departments, and take pride in each other’s success.
- Access to the people making decisions. Work closely with leadership to explain trade-offs, propose improvements, and help set priorities.
- An opportunity to build a department. As Savance grows, our intent is to build a DevOps department around this role. Establish the standards and documentation today, then help define future staffing needs and mentor teammates as the function expands.
ABOUT SAVANCE
Savance is a fast-paced, dynamic, challenging, and demanding environment; and also a fun and rewarding place to work. We thrive as a team and are always looking for the people who are the right fit and have the right attitude to bring even greater success and camaraderie to the table. To excel at Savance, you must love to be challenged, seek out opportunities to develop your skills, be confident yet humble, and be able to learn from your mistakes. We thrive working alongside smart, independent, and self-motivated people who get along well with others. If you have a can-do attitude and seek a challenging, rewarding position with a great team, Savance is the place for you!
WHAT YOU WILL OWN
- The DevOps roadmap and execution. Assess the current environment, identify gaps and dependencies, prioritize work with leadership, and take initiatives through implementation, validation, documentation, and follow-up. Make progress, risks, and decisions visible without needing repeated prompting.
- Azure infrastructure across production, staging, testing, and development. Manage subscriptions, resource groups, networking, virtual machines, Web Apps, Azure Front Door, load balancing, storage, secrets, and access. Improve availability, performance, scalability, and cost.
- Windows and hybrid operations. Support Windows application servers, IIS, Windows development/test workstations, and SQL Server environments, including Linux-hosted SQL Server. Partner with development on modernization and migrations, including the path from SQL Server to Azure SQL.
- Repeatable software delivery. Build and improve Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines using Git and YAML. Automate infrastructure provisioning, configuration, testing, application deployments, and rollback procedures with infrastructure-as-code and scripting.
- AI and automation that improve day-to-day work. Identify recurring manual tasks and use automation and AI-assisted tools to accelerate scripting, troubleshooting, log analysis, documentation, and pipeline development. Validate generated outputs, protect sensitive information, and measure the improvements in time, consistency, or reliability.
- Monitoring, incident response, and recovery. Establish actionable alerts, useful logs and metrics, runbooks, backup and restore practices, and recovery procedures. Lead infrastructure troubleshooting, communicate clearly during incidents, and address root causes to reduce repeat issues.
- Security and compliance operations. Manage Entra ID, role-based access, Key Vault, secure employee and contractor access, patching, and onboarding/offboarding. Maintain evidence and controls supporting SOC 2, ISO, and HIPAA requirements, working with leadership and external partners on audits and tools such as Sprinto.
- Cross-team enablement. Give development, support, and implementation reliable environments and clear deployment procedures. Help evaluate container-based and cloud-native approaches where they solve a business need, and document systems so knowledge can be shared as the team grows
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
Early in the role, you understand the environment, establish access and documentation, surface the most important risks, and agree on a prioritized roadmap with leadership. As you execute that roadmap, deployments become more repeatable, monitoring becomes more useful, and manual work and recurring issues decrease. Teams know who owns decisions and how to get help, and the DevOps function has a stronger foundation for future growth.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- 5+ years of DevOps experience with a strong technical foundation in infrastructure, software delivery, systems administration, or engineering.
- Deep, hands-on production Azure experience is a must. You have personally designed, administered, secured, monitored, and troubleshooted Azure environments, and can explain the decisions you owned and the results you achieved.
- Strong Azure administration across subscriptions, resource groups, virtual networks, VMs, Web Apps, storage, network security groups, Entra ID, role-based access, Key Vault, and monitoring/logging.
- Proficiency with Azure DevOps, Git, and YAML-based CI/CD pipelines, plus infrastructure-as-code and configuration automation using tools such as Terraform, Bicep, ARM templates, or Ansible.
- Hands-on Windows Server, IIS, and SQL Server experience, including troubleshooting application, database, networking, and infrastructure performance issues. Ability to work across Windows and Linux components.
- Strong scripting and automation skills, such as PowerShell or Python, and practical ability to use AI-assisted tools responsibly to improve engineering workflows.
- Experience improving production reliability through monitoring, incident response, backup/recovery, secure access, patching, and controlled deployment practices.
- Evidence of owning an initiative end to end: defining the problem, planning the work, coordinating stakeholders, delivering the solution, and maintaining it afterward.
- Clear written and verbal communication, sound prioritization, and the ability to explain technical trade-offs to both technical and nontechnical teammates.
ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE WE VALUE
Azure SQL migrations; Azure Front Door, ExpressRoute, and advanced networking; containers and microservices; blue-green deployments; SOC 2, ISO, or HIPAA audit support; Sprinto; and mentoring or building a technical function. Familiarity with C#, VB.NET, Angular, and Microsoft SQL is helpful. A bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience is welcome; relevant Azure/Azure DevOps certifications and Google Workspace experience are a plus.
WHO WILL THRIVE HERE
You enjoy being both the person who sets the direction and the person who does the work. You take initiative, ask good questions, and close the loop. You can balance urgent needs with longer-term improvements, work independently in a remote environment, and bring teammates along through clear communication. You are confident enough to recommend a better approach, humble enough to learn, and willing to help beyond a narrow job description. Building trust and making the whole company stronger matters to you.
