Senior DevOps Engineer (Infrastructure) – AWS / GitLab

Contract | 6 Months Initial | Remote | Inside IR35 | £600–£700 per day

We're looking for experienced, hands-on Senior DevOps Engineers to join an enterprise-scale transformation project, helping to modernise and enhance a large-scale DevOps and GitLab environment.

You'll play a key role in rebuilding and improving CI/CD pipelines, automating infrastructure processes and enabling development teams to deliver software securely, efficiently and reliably.

This is a hands-on engineering role, ideal for someone who enjoys building, scripting, configuring and troubleshooting rather than focusing purely on architecture and design.

Key Responsibilities

• Build, configure and optimise GitLab CI/CD pipelines to support automated software delivery.
• Develop and maintain AWS infrastructure within complex enterprise environments.
• Write Python scripts to automate processes, improve efficiency and support infrastructure operations.
• Integrate systems and tooling using REST APIs and automation.
• Troubleshoot pipeline failures, deployment issues and infrastructure challenges.
• Contribute to the modernisation and continuous improvement of DevOps tooling and practices.
• Implement and support security measures, including vulnerability scanning and infrastructure security.
• Collaborate with engineers and development teams to improve deployment reliability, scalability and performance.

Essential Experience

• 5+ years of hands-on AWS experience within enterprise-scale environments.
• Strong practical experience with GitLab, particularly CI/CD pipeline development and configuration.
• Proficiency in Python scripting and automation.
• Experience working with REST APIs and system integrations.
• A strong background in hands-on DevOps, infrastructure engineering or platform engineering.
• Experience supporting complex environments, with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues independently.
• Comfortable working collaboratively within an engineering team and delivering practical technical solutions.

Desirable Experience

• Experience with Microsoft Azure, particularly Azure App Service.
• Knowledge of vulnerability scanning, security tooling and infrastructure security.
• Experience in financial services, banking or consultancy environments.
• Experience modernising existing DevOps platforms and CI/CD processes.
