Project: €500 million+ biopharmaceutical expansion project currently in early design stages

Contract: Initial 12 months, with extensions expected

Duration: 2–3 years

Working Arrangement: 4–5 days per week on-site

Summary:

Blackfield Associates are seeking an experienced Senior Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) Engineer to support one of our key clients in the end-to-end delivery of a €500 million+ API expansion project in the greater Antwerp region, currently in basic design stage.

Currently in basic design, this major capital project offers the opportunity to lead E&I engineering activities, develop technical scope and coordinate throughout the full end-to-end project lifecycle.

The initial 12-month contract is expected to offer extension opportunities in line with the 2–3-year project timeline.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and manage electrical, instrumentation and automation engineering scopes for capital projects.
• Lead E&I project delivery, ensuring alignment on scope, priorities, resources, quality and timelines.
• Deliver engineering solutions covering electrical installations, process instrumentation and automation hardware, including qualification and handover.
• Participate as a CTM or ETM, taking ownership of E&I and hardware deliverables.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to external engineers and engineering contractors.
• Establish E&I system roadmaps and maintain engineering standards to support asset lifecycle requirements.
• Drive innovation and continuous improvement in engineering processes and methodologies.
• Ensure compliance with relevant technical, qualification and safety requirements, including ATEX and SIL.
• Collaborate with Manufacturing, EHSS, Quality, Engineering, Maintenance, Operations and Facilities.
• Keep stakeholders and senior management informed of progress, risks, forecasts and key project metrics.

Required Technical Expertise:

• Electrical installations and process instrumentation.
• PLCs, DCS and automation OT systems, ideally Emerson DeltaV.
• Biologics, Chemcial OR ATEX regulations and hazardous-area environments is a bonus.
• Instrument calibration, qualification and data integrity requirements.
• Industrial communication protocols and functional safety requirements, including SIL.
• Engineering scope development, project management and technical delivery.

Candidate Profile:

• Engineering degree in Electrical, Instrumentation, Automation or a related discipline.
• Senior-level E&I engineering experience within pharmaceutical, API, chemical or other complex industrial environments.
• Proven experience delivering E&I scope on capital projects and coordinating external engineering partners.
• Strong technical leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Fluent in English and minimum B2 Dutch language.
